L earning how to start a blog can be a daunting task.

There is so much information out there about how to start a successful blog.

Which is great.  Because you can literally learn anything you need to know about blogging at any time – and usually for free.

But it always bothers me when I see posts about how to start a successful blog for free.

It bothers me because you can’t have one without the other.

Sorry, but there is no way to start a successful and profitable blog for free.

For cheap, though?  Yes.

Starting a blog can definitely be done much cheaper than you’re probably thinking.

I’ll give you the rundown of the basics of what you’ll need to get your blog off the ground and set you up for success.

Don’t forget your freebie!  All the information you need in an easy to read checklist.

Sooooo, no.  You can’t start a profitable blog for free.

BUT!  You can start a blog for super cheap.

Yes, a successful blog.

For relatively cheap, you’ll be able to:

  • Design your dream website without having to pay a graphic designer or understand HTML coding
  • Grow your email list through targeted opt-in’s and email marketing
  • Increase pageviews with social sharing and Pinterest marketing
  • Earn money from your online business

Remember, starting a profitable blog is an investment.

Ever heard the saying, “you gotta spend money to make money?”

That’s gonna apply here.

But, every penny will be worth the investment when you start seeing a return on money spent in a few short months!

All of the steps and products/services listed below are the exact ones that we pay for to run this blog.

And, in the last 10 months of blogging (as a side hustle) we’ve

  • designed our website with 100% design control (without hiring a graphic designer),
  • grew our email list to over 1,000 subscribers,
  • increased our page views by 87%, and
  • started earning cash for our product.

If you’re ready to do the same, stick around for the rundown of all the products and services we love!

Step 1:  Choose your domain name

Before you can start designing your blog, you need to decide on a name for your website.

AKA, your domain name.

The domain name of this website is www.whosayswhat.co.

I recommend researching each domain name that you are interested in to make sure that

a.) the name isn’t already taken and

b.) that a similar domain isn’t in use.

You don’t want to make your domain name too similar to another because they might get confused for one another.

You can use Name.com to search domain names and see if they’re already in use.

Once you’ve decided on a clean and memorable domain name, head on over to GoDaddy to register for as little as $5.99 per YEAR.

As I said, starting a profitable and successful blog for free is pretty difficult.

But for cheap…a breeze.

Because if you want to own your website, you need to pay for it.

Lucky for us, domain names are usually pretty cheap.

I purchased this domain for $5.99 per year.

I mean, not too shabby, eh?

COST: as low as $5.99/year

TOTAL SPENT: $5.99

Step 2:  Sign up for fast and reliable website hosting

Once you’ve registered your domain name with GoDaddy, it’s time to sign up for fast and reliable website hosting.

A website host is a service that keeps your website up and running – making it accessible to viewers and customers, so another necessity before you can start designing your website.

Without a host, your website would look a little something like this when people searched for your domain name:

how to start a blog, how to blog, how to start a blog for cheap, how to start a successful blog

Oops!  I’m guessing you want people to find your website, which is why I recommend TMDHosting for your website’s host.

Not only is TMDHosting super affordable, but they have an amazing customer and technical support team and offer internet speeds that are 32x faster than other hosts.

I know a lot of people in the blogging world recommend Bluehost for website hosting, but I simply don’t understand why.

Not only did we have a horrible experience with their customer service team, but our website was always crashing when hosted by Bluehost.  They were also never prompt about fixing the techinical issues with our site.

(If you wanna know more about our poor experience with Bluehost, check out our post “5 Reasons You Need To Change Hosting Companies.”)

So, we made the switch to TMDHosting a few months into blogging and seriously, it was the best decision.  Our website loads super quickly now and never crashes.

If you’d like a full review of TMDHosting, you can check out our comparison post “TMDHosting vs. Bluehost“.

Now, if you’re looking to start your blog for as little money as possible, TMDHosting offers shared hosting for $2.95 per month when you sign up for three years of hosting.

However, I truly recommend spending a little more money and signing up for Cloud Hosting with TMDHosting.

Cloud hosting will always be faster and more reliable than shared hosting because you aren’t sharing your website space with tons of other people.

If you want your website to load quickly to avoid high bounce rates and never want to worry about your website crashing, Cloud hosting is the way to go.

And it’s only $3 more per month.

You’ll also notice when signing up for TMDHosting that they offer a free domain name included with a purchase of hosting.

Through my research, though, I’ve found many people’s advice to register your domain separately from your hosting company, which is why I first talked about GoDaddy in this post….but you do you, sista.

So, let’s get that website up and running with TMDHosting so you can start designing and creating! (They’ll even install WordPress FOR YOU!)

COST: $5.95/month (when you sign up for three years up front)

TOTAL SPENT: $220.19

Step 3: Install WordPress (the RIGHT WordPress)

I want to make this part super clear — if you are starting a blog with your own domain name and your own hosting, you need WordPress.org NOT WordPress.com. (see a comparison here)

If you’ve purchased a domain name through GoDaddy and hosting with TMDHosting, you need WordPress.org.

For some reason this was not heavily specified when I was doing research about starting a blog and it definitely caused me a bunch of confusion and aggravation.

WordPress.org is free to download and begin using.  However, WordPress isn’t the easiet thing to set up.

When we first downloaded WordPress to begin designing our website, we were using Bluehost as a host.

Not only did they not install WordPress for us, they didn’t even guide us in installing WordPress on our own.

We finally had to hire a friend who was familiar with WordPress and HTML to install it for us because we simply could not figure it out.

Don’t make our mistake!

To prevent you from being frustrated, TMDHosting offers FREE WordPress installation when you purchase one of their hosting plans!

I highly recommend taking advantage of this offer because like I said, installing WordPress is not easy.

I mean, just because we wanna start a blog doesn’t mean we’re computer tech’s amiright?

So, save yourself some time and frustration and let TMDHosting do the work for you by installing WordPress for FREE.

COST: FREE with your previous purchase of a TMDHosting plan

TOTAL SPENT: $220.19

Step 4: Choose your WordPress theme
how to start a blog, how to blog, how to start a blog for cheap, how to start a successful blog

You’ve made it!  It’s finally time to design your dream website – without the high cost of a graphic designer.

How?

With a WordPress Theme.

There are soooooo many WordPress themes to choose from, so I’ll save you the time and research.

The Divi Theme by Elegant Themes is the best.

This theme is literally the reason that I didn’t give up on creating this blog.

Because creating a blog (aka a website) is hard.  Like really, really hard.

We discovered how hard designing a website is when we tried to designing ours with a free theme.

Because unless you have HTML coding knowledge, most themes are quite difficult to customize to your brand.

Which sucks because your brand is soooo important to stand apart from the crowd when starting a new blog.

So, how do you create a website of your dreams without knowing anything about HTML?

With Divi.

Divi is a WordPress Theme by Elegant Themes that uses a drag and drop system.

This means that there is literally no coding involved.

If you want to insert a text box you simply add a text box.  Same goes for images, slideshows, buttons, contact forms, email signups, and more.

You name it, Divi likely has it.

I mean you can find tons of free themes out there, but none with the customization abilities that Divi gives you without having to understand HTML.

And in this day in age, you don’t want your website to look exactly like somebody else’s because you both are using the same free theme.

Ya know?

Trust me, Divi is 100% worth the investment if you are serious about making a profit from your blog by standing out from the crowd with a kickass brand.

And, when you purchase the Divi Theme, you’re really purchasing a subscription to Elegant Themes.  This means you’ll have access to all their other themes and plugins – for no additional cost.

Check out a complete overview of Divi here.

And when you’ve completely fallen in love with its ease of use and design capabilites, you can download Divi here.

COST: $89/year OR $249 one time fee (recommended)

TOTAL SPENT: $469.19

Divi WordPress Theme
Step 5: Plugins

Plugins are handy tools that let you customize your website even more.

They can also help with your websites security, SEO, and speed.

However, using too many plugins can slow down your website or cause an interference with your theme.

So, it’s best if you use as few plugins as possible and always use plugins that are updates regularly.

Here’s a list of the plugins I use and love (and how much they’ll cost you):

Bloom Email Optin Plugin

The Bloom plugin is essential for growing your email list.  Bloom makes creating email opt-in boxes (signup forms) super easy.  There’s over 100 templates to choose from and customizing your opt-in to your brand is quick and simple.  The best part?  It’s included with your purcahse of the Divi Theme!

Here’s an example of an email opt-in box that you can create with Bloom by Elegant Themes:

  • Disqus Comment System – FREE: This is the comment system that I use on my blog.  It is free, easy to use, and has a clean design.  I highly recommend!
  • Google Analytics for WordPress – FREE: This plugin will help you monitor your blogs growth through targeted analytics – which will help you know what’s working and what’s not.
  • Lazy Load – FREE:  A simple plugin that increases page speed by waiting to load images until after scrolling
  • Monarch Social Sharing Plugin by Elegant Themes – FREE with the purchase of your Divi Theme (Elegant Themes Membership):
Monarch Social Sharing Plugin

Monarch is another awesome plugin that is included with the purcahse of the Divi Theme.

It lets you place social sharing buttons on all areas of your blog, whether at the beginning and end of posts, a sidebar, footer, or basically anywhere you want.

This plugin also makes it easy to place follow buttons on your blog so your readers can follow you on sites like Pinterest, Instagram, and Facebook.

Such as these:

Follows
  • Updraft Plus – FREE: This free plugin backsup your website in case it gets hacked or crashes.
  • WP Performance Score Booster – FREE: Simple plugin to increase website speed
  • WP Smush – FREE:  This plugin compresses images to optimize your website for speed
  • WP Optimize – FREE:  A tool that runs in the backround, automatically cleaning your WordPress so it can run “at maximum efficiency”
  • Yoast SEO – FREE:  If there is one plugin you download, let it be this one.  Yoast makes optimizing your blog for search engines (SEO) super easy.  Once installed, Yoast will guide you on every page and post to make it search engine optimized and readable to the average viewer.

Step 6: Sign up for email marketing & get subscribers

If you want to make money from your blog, it is important to build an email list.

Email lists are so important to the success of your business because it is something that you own in its entirety.

Your email list is 100% yours and is unique to you – nobody will ever have the exact same list of people.

Building an email list is crucial because if all else fails on your blog, i.e., you aren’t making money from affiliate links or page views, you still have your email list to market to and promote your ideas and products.

So, who should you use to grow your email list for income security?

MailChimp.

I love MailChimp for a few reasons.

  1. It’s free up to 2,000 email subscribers
  2. It uses a drag and drop builder similar to Divi’s
  3. Their emails can be super simple or highly customizable
  4. Did I mention it’s free?

I know a lot of people recommend Convertkit but daaaanng $30/month for 0-1k subbies?

That’s just a little pricey for me right now and MailChimp does a fantastic job for free.

Their free plan includes:

  • Email automation
  • Sign up forms
  • Campaign templates and
  • Free reports and data insights

Like I said, MailChimp has given us everything we need to easily create email campaigns and successfully market our blog — FOR FREE.

Once you’ve signed up with MailChimp and created email lists and campaigns, it’s time to get people signed up for your list.

How do you ask?

Bloom!

Bloom Email Optin Plugin

That free plugin for email opt-ins that comes with your purchase of Divi!

This is the plugin that I used to create the opt-in form you saw earlier for our Budget Boss Binder.

As I mentioned, Bloom has over 100 templates for opt-in forms that you can customize to your brand.

Bloom also easily connects with MailChimp so it is a complete breeze to have people automatically added to your email list once they sign up via an opt-in form on your website.

Start sending these subbies engaging email campaigns so you can build a community of followers who will love your content and your products!

COSTS: FREE

TOTAL SPENT: $469.19

Step 7: Sign up for your favorite products’ affiliate programs

So you’re here because you want to create a blog that makes money.

We’ve covered the basics of how to set up your blog and website for success, but now how do you make money?

My first recommendation for turning your blog into a profitable business is with affiliate links.

Affiliate links are the easiest and quickest way to monetize your blog and what I recommend the majority of your posts be about in the beginning of blogging.

This is because affiliate links will monetize your blog and put earning money on autopilot and with much less work than creating and selling your own products.

So, sign up to become an affiliate with your favorite products and services to get the ball rolling on making some money.

I also recommend signing up for affiliate programs that are related to your niche.  This way, you can promote the product easily in your relevant posts without having to force a sale.

Then, once you’ve got your affiliate marketing on autopilot, you can concentrate on creating your own products.

Here are a few of my favorite affiliate programs that you might be interested in signing up for:

COST: FREE TO JOIN

TOTAL SPENT: $469.19

Step 8: Create content, products and/or services

So, you’ve signed up for some affiliate programs and wrote supporting posts.

Now, it’s time to focus on why you really started a blog – because you’re super passionate about a certain topic.

It’s time to start creating content relevant to your niche!  This content can be:

  • Blog posts
  • eBooks
  • Guides
  • Workbooks
  • Printables
  • Physical products
  • Merch
  • eCourses

Your blog should consist of free and paid content.

For example, you can write blog posts that offer a free content upgrade such as a workbook.

Then, your freebie leads to a sales funnel for a paid product or service.

Products and services are the second way you’ll be monetizing your blog and turning it into a profitable business.

You can offer products such as planners, merch, and ecourses and services such as financial counseling, life coaching, and graphic design.

This will turn your blog into a profitable business and let you quit that 9-5 for a life of financial independence.

Ooooohhhh yeaaaahhhh!

So, you’ve set up your affiliates to bring in money on autopilot.  And you’ve created kickass content – both free and paid.

Now, how’s anybody supposed to find your blog so you can start earning a living?

Well, you gotta market your stuff, of course!

COSTS: FREE

TOTAL SPENT: $469.19

Step 9: Market your stuff

It’s time to unleash your blogs greatness on the world.

By marketing yourself.

Primarily on Pinterest.

I focus the most on Pinterest marketing because it has been the most successful source of traffic for my blog.

And you can put your Pinterest marketing on autopilot, so thats another huge plus.

Oh, and Pinterest is free, so yay!

Pinterest is an awesome place to market your blog because it is a search engine that is comprised of millions of people searching for tons of different things.

This means that more likely than not, your blogs content will find an audience on Pinterest.

I use Pinterest in conjunction with Tailwind to automate pinning and generate traffic to my blog on autopilot.

If you want to learn how to set up your Pinterest and website to generate traffic with Tailwind, check out our post on How To Increase Blog Traffic By 64% In 30 Days.

Once you’re pinning automatically each day with Tailwind, your posts will be circulating on Pinterest and leading people back to your content.

Continue creating valuable content that you promote on Pinterest and the traffic and sales will come your way!

COST: FREE to sign up for Tailwind for one month (then $109.89/year *recommended) (or $15/month)

TOTAL SPENT: $579.08

Tailwind Visual Marketing Suite
Step 10: Monitor your progress

It’s important to monitor the progress of your blog to understand which strategies are working and which ones aren’t.

That way, you know which areas need improvement and which are popular with your audience.

I monitor the progress of my blog (my blog’s stats) in four different places, for four different reasons:

  1. Google Analytics to monitor website traffic
  2. Pinterest Analytics on Tailwind to monitor marketing strategies
  3. MailChimp to monitor email marketing strategies
  4. SendOwl to monitor revenue

By monitoring the progress of my blog on many different platforms, I can tweak things to improve the success of my blog.

I can also continue doing the things that are working, such as writing similar posts to ones that have received large numbers of shares and likes.

Don’t get too caught up on the statistics, though, because everybody’s progress and success is different.

COST: FREE

TOTAL SPENT: $579.08

So it’s gonna cost an initial investment of $580 to start your blog – and set it up to make ensure you make a profit.

This may seem like a steep cost – but in reality it’s pretty dang cheap.

Remember that this number includes a LIFETIME membership to Elegant Themes (which includes the Divi Theme and all their plugins).

This initial investment also pays for THREE YEARS of hosting for your blog.

If you’re wondering where you’re gonna find $580 spare bucks to put towards starting a blog, think about how you could earn some extra money.

Maybe get a second job such as babysitting or tutoring, have a yard sale, or spend less this month on ordering out or going to restaurants.

Because without traffic, you’re not getting any exposure.  And without exposure, you’re not gonna make any sales.

I’ve been blogging for 10 months now, but it was only as of recent months that I began to get serious about my blog’s traffic and sales.

Before I began to focus on getting more traffic (and in turn, generating more sales), I was averaging about 3,000 page views per month.

Not terrible, but certainly not anything to brag about.  I mean, there are blogs out there that generate tens of thousands of views per day.

However, massive amounts of page views aren’t anything to brag about on there own – it’s only if you’re able to turn those pageviews (big or small) into sales that you should start bragging.

So, when I wanted to finally get serious about making money from my blog I scoured the internet for resources on how to increase blog traffic.

I found tons of awesome information that I have put into action this month to increase my page views.

And, I have to say that I am impressed.

A 64% increase in page views (and an increase in sales) is something that I am proud to brag about…humbly 😉

The best part about my increase in blog traffic is that it can be done for FREE.  Everything I learned was through free resources and free services.

So, you ready to increase your blog traffic in 30 days with three simple steps?

incrase traffic, how to increase traffic, how to increase blog traffic, blog traffic, increase blog traffic, how to increase website traffic
Step 1:  Define your business and your brand

First things first, you gotta figure out what you can offer people in exchange for money and how you want to differentiate yourself from the crowd.

AKA, define your business and your brand.

If you want to establish yourself as a business rather than a blog, you need to earn an income from your blog.

And if you want to earn an income from your blog, you need to sell something.  Whether you have a service or a product, you need something to offer your ideal customer.

Your Business:

So, got any special knowledge about a certain topic?  Feel super passionate about something?  Have a kickass product you need the world to see?

Once you figure out what it is you have to offer the world, it’s time to monetize your blog.

Here are a few ways you can monetize your blog (aka, turn it into a business) no matter what your niche is:

  • eBooks
  • eCourses
  • ePlanners
  • Physical product
  • Affiliate marketing

For example, on our blog, we sell our Budget Boss Financial Planner and also do some affiliate marketing.  In the future, we hope to offer more ePlanners and eCourses.

Your Brand:

Awesome!  We’ve established your basic business model.

Now it’s time to create your brand.  Your brand will help people recognize you easier across multiple social networks.  Your brand also helps to distinguish yourself as a business rather than a hobby, you know?

So, what things should you consider when creating your brand?

  • Colors – I recommend keeping this to as few as possible.
  • Fonts – Again, keep it simple.  You can find tons of free fonts to download at 1001freefonts.com
  • Style – What’s your writing style?  Super serious or a little more laid back?  Having a consistent voice will help people recognize your content.
  • Design – What do you want your pins to look like on Pinterest?  How about your landing pages?  Photos?  Make sure the design of your website is consistent across all pages and on social media to help people — you guessed it – recognize you.

Here’s what our branding looks like across Who Says What and on Pinterest (click the images to expand):

As you can see, we use the same three colors and two fonts across all our web pages and on Pinterest.

Now, our website and Pinterest didn’t always look like this.

That’s why I really, reeeaalllyy recommend spending a good chunk of time really figuring out what you want your business and brand to be and say.

Do you want it to be feminine or bold?  Sassy or serious?  Creative or simple?

Since I didn’t devote enough time to this in the early stages of my blog, I had to do a complete redesign a few months into blogging.

While this isn’t catastrophic, it was hella time-consuming.

I had to redesign every single page of my website, my Pinterest pins, and my emails with MailChimp.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m so happy with how the redesign turned out, but dang it, it took a lot of time.  A lot of wasted time that could have been avoided had I figured out my business model and my brand before launching my blog.

In order to keep our designs consistent, we use the Divi Theme on our website and Canva for all our Pinterest designs.

And while it’s not free, I cannot recommend the Divi Theme enough if you want complete control over the branding of your business.

Divi uses a drag and drop builder, giving you complete control over the design of your blog without having to know ANY HTML.

Yep, you don’t have to know how to code to create a stunning website that looks exactly how you want it to.

Seriously, Divi is awesome.  It changed the way we present our business to the world, for the better.

Tools to brand your business:

Divi

Divi is a WordPress theme by Elegant Themes and it is amazing.  Divi uses a drag and drop builder to make designing a professional website a breeze.  You no longer have to know HTML coding to have a kickass website.  Start building the website of your dreams with Divi!

Canva

Canva is an awesome site that offers free memberships for designing anything from Pinterest pins to eBooks and printables.  Seriously, it’s awesome.  I use the free version and it suits my needs wonderfully.  I create all my images for my blog and Pinterest on Canva and I love how simple and accessible it is!

MailChimp

MailChimp is the email service I use for my blog and is FREE up to 2,000 subscribers.  It’s easy to use and has awesome design abilities.  You have complete control over the look of your emails, whether you like simple or fancy.  MailChimp uses a drag and drop builder, making designing emails easy and quick!
Step 2:  Get serious about Pinterest

If you don’t use Pinterest to market your online business, you should start.

Pinterest has over 175 million monthly active users.

AKA, Pinterest has over 175 million people that you could potentially reach, inspire, and sell your products to.

So if you don’t have a Pinterest, you gotta go sign up.  Just click here!  When you’re signing up for Pinterest, here are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Pinterest is NOT a social media platform.  Pinterest IS a search engine.
  • Pinterest is NOT niche stingy.  As in, there is a home for your niche on Pinterest, I promise.
  • Pinterest is an extension of your online business and brand, so treat it like you would treat your business.

These three things are important to remember when getting serious about Pinterest so you can use the platform to your advantage.

Pinterest is not social media:

Alright, so Pinterest isn’t a social media platform, but how does that translate into marketing your business?

Well, since Pinterest is a search engine, SEO is super important.

Making it easy for Pinterest to find your content is key, which is why keywords are so important.

Lucky for us, finding relevant keywords on Pinterest is super easy.  Just start typing in the search bar on Pinterest and tons of suggestions will appear.

These suggestions are your keywords.

For instance, when I search “blog traffic,” things like “tips,” “increase,” and “how to get” come up.

So, these are common keywords for this blog post topic.

But, how do you use these keywords to your advantage?

Use them in your Pinterest board descriptions, Pinterest pins, and throughout your blog post.

That way, when somebody searches “how to increase blog traffic,” your blog post will show up.

incrase traffic, how to increase traffic, how to increase blog traffic, blog traffic, increase blog traffic, how to increase website traffic
Pinterest is not niche stingy:

So, what’s a niche?

A niche is a specific topic that you can relate products and services to a specialized population of people who are interested in the same topic.

For example, your niche could be:

  • budgeting
  • knitting
  • motherhood
  • yoga
  • hiking
  • traveling
  • lifestyle
  • gardening

Literally, any niche can be found on Pinterest so never feel like you won’t make money because you’re blogging about knitting.

I bet there are some people out there that are so serious about knitting that they would buy an eBook from you teaching them how to knit a baby blanket.

Get creative with what you have to offer.  If you have something to teach, there will be people who want to learn.

If you’re looking for money rather than following your passion, these are the blog niches that make the most money:

  • Blogs about how to make money (ironic, right?)
  • Personal Finance

So, choose a niche and brainstorm the product(s) and service(s) you can offer your target audience!

Pinterest is an extension of your business and brand:

Like I mentioned, Pinterest is not a social media platform, so there are a few things you should do right after creating an account:

  1. Switch to a business account by clicking here
  2. Enable rich pins by clicking here

Now that your Pinterest is set up for business, it’s time to start reaching your customers by customizing your profile.

How To Customize Your Pinterest Profile:

  • Put niche related keywords at the end of your Pinterest name
  • Put relevant keywords in your description and link to a freebie or product/service you have to offer
  • Upload a clear, professional image/logo to make your blog easily recognizable

Here’s what our Pinterest profile looks like after customizing it:

incrase traffic, how to increase traffic, how to increase blog traffic, blog traffic, increase blog traffic, how to increase website traffic

As you can see, I’ve included niched related keywords in my Pinterest profile name and a keyword rich description that directly reflects the content on my website.

I also link to our free Budget Boss Binder in our Pinterest description so viewers know what goodies we have to offer.

It is important that your Pinterest profile reflects your website so readers and potential customers have a clear image of what you have to offer.

When you click through to whosayswhat.co from Pinterest, you’ll be greeted with a landing page that looks similar in design and has a similar call to action as our Pinterest profile.

(Hint: You want people to sign up to your mailing list, so make it easy for them to do so.)

Next, let’s focus on your Pinterest Boards.

Since this Pinterest is for your business, you shouldn’t use it for your personal interests.

As in, you shouldn’t have a board labeled “Makeup Tips” on your Pinterest for your health and fitness blog.

The only Pinterest boards that you should have are boards that are relevant to your blog.

So, if your business/blog is focused on health and fitness, these are some relevant board titles you might want to use:

  • Workout Tips
  • Workout Routines for Busy Moms
  • Healthy Recipes
  • Fitness Motivation

Use Pinterest’s search bar to find relevant keywords for your niche and create boards with those titles.

Aim to create 10-20 boards to get you started and continue to create new boards as you discover the kind of content that your audience enjoys.

Don’t forget to create a board that is dedicated to your blogs Pins only! (And make it the first board on your profile.)

Once you’ve created your niche related Pinterest boards, it’s time to customize them for optimal traffic with these steps:

  1. Create branded board covers
  2. Fill in board descriptions with keywords so you’re discoverable when those keywords are searched for
  3. Pin quality (and relevant) pins to your boards

Awesome!  You’ve transformed your Pinterest into a business profile that is optimized for traffic!

But, how the heck do you get people to your profile and then to your website?

Step 3: Pin strategically with Tailwind

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, I am sureeeee you have heard about Tailwind for Pinterest.

And for goooooood reason.

Tailwind is awesome for so many reasons:

  1. It’s free to join
  2. It automates pinning for you
  3. It knows what time of day to pin to get optimal engagement (smart scheduling)
  4. It provides in-depth analytics so you know what’s working and what’s not

Tailwind takes so much stress out of getting traffic to your blog because it does all the work for you!

All you have to do is create drool-worthy pins and pin them to relevant boards and voila!  Traffic!

Ok, ok, you got me.  It’s a little more complicated than that.  But not by much.

1.  Sign up for tailwind:

First, you gotta sign up for Tailwind by clicking here.

You’ll be using Tailwinds free trial for the first month to see how you like it.

But, I promise you, you’ll love it.

After your free trial, Tailwind is only $9.99/month for bloggers and small business owners.

It’s seriously such a sweet deal for such an amazing product.

Cause ain’t nobody got time for manual pinning, amiright?

Once you’ve signed up and connected your Pinterest account, click around and familiarize yourself with Tailwind and all its awesome features.

You won’t be disappointed.

2. create drool-worthy pins:

Creating branded pins that will stand out on Pinterest is not as hard as it seems.

Especially when you’re using Canva.

I honestly don’t know what I would do without Canva.

Canva makes designing images and elements for your blog and social media accounts a freakin’ breeze.  It uses a drag and drop system so it is super easy to use.

I suggest creating 2-3 pin templates that you can use over and over again each time you write a new post.

All you’ll have to do is switch out the words and the imagery and you’ll be set.

Doing this has saved me so much time.  It used to take me hours to create three pins for a post, but with Canva, they are done in a few minutes.

I highly suggest you make two to three different pins per post in order to gain optimal exposure.

Another pin template I suggest you make is one for infographics.

Infographics do tremendously well on Pinterest and I’ve had great results since using them more frequently.

So, what are you waiting for?!

Go create some pins!

(And then pin them to your relevant Pinterest boards)

3. jOIN GROUP BOARDS/TRIBES:

So you have this awesome Pinterest profile and equally awesome Pinterest pins.

Now all you gotta do is get people to see them.

That is where Pinterest Group Boards come in.

Group boards on Pinterest are like a giant collaboration between people in similar niches all sharing their kickass content in one location.

And seriously guys, there are group boards out there for every niche.

My favorite tool to find group boards to pin to is PinGroupie.

Pin Groupie lets you search group boards based on topic/keyword and displays all relevant boards for you to browse.

Once you’ve found a board that seems like a good fit, click on over to their Pinterest profile to see the requirements for being added as a contributor to the board.

Most times, the information can be easily found in the description of the board.  But, if there isn’t any information, I like to send them a friendly direct message asking how I should go about being added as a contributor.

Every couple of months I will browse new group boards and send out requests to be added to 20-30 boards.  I usually hear back from 3-5 of these boards and am added as a contributor.

Doing this every few months allows me to grow my exposure through group boards and thus leads more traffic back to my blog.

In my opinion, the more group boards you can contribute to (that are relevant), the better.

You can also try out Tailwind tribes to increase your blog traffic.

This is something that I have not dabbled in yet, but you can find some great information from You Baby Me Mummy’s post here.  She even includes a list of 25 tribes for you to join!

4. strategically Schedule pins with tailwind:

It’s finally time to strategically schedule your pins with Tailwind so you can automate your Pinterest marketing.

First things first, you’re gonna wanna install Tailwinds browser extension by clicking here.

Then, once a week use the Tailwind Extension to schedule a week’s worth of pins in an hour or less.

Doing this will automate your Pinterest marketing and increase your traffic!

Simply go to Pinterest and follow these steps:

  1. Go to your boards (and group boards that you contribute to) and select all the pins you want to pin with the Tailwind Extension
incrase traffic, how to increase traffic, how to increase blog traffic, blog traffic, increase blog traffic, how to increase website traffic
2. Schedule each pin to relevant boards. (use the “Board Lists” tool in Tailwind to group together similar boards to save time)
incrase traffic, how to increase traffic, how to increase blog traffic, blog traffic, increase blog traffic, how to increase website traffic
incrase traffic, how to increase traffic, how to increase blog traffic, blog traffic, increase blog traffic, how to increase website traffic
3. Once you’ve scheduled a good amount of pins, head on over to your Tailwind account and click on “Scheduled Pins.”  This is where you’ll see all of the pins that you just scheduled.  Simply shuffle the queue with the button at the top of the page and you’re good to go for an entire week! (or month, depending on how many pins you scheduled)
incrase traffic, how to increase traffic, how to increase blog traffic, blog traffic, increase blog traffic, how to increase website traffic

After doing massive amounts of *FREE* research, I was able to put Pinterest and Tailwind to the test last month.

I’ve increased my pageviews by 64% in the last 30 days and am still seeing an increase each day moving forward.

Tailwind has saved me a tremendous amount of time and has made it 1000x easier to gain exposure and traffic through Pinterest.

Because of this, we’ve also increased our sales this month.

Check out Tailwind for free and see for yourself!  It is serious gold.

If you’re serious about your blog it’s time to get serious about traffic.  Increase your blog traffic with Tailwind so you can start seeing sales tomorrow.  Grab your FREE checklist below!

TMDHosting is hands-down the best WordPress host for sooooo many reasons.

Are you starting a blog?

Or maybe you already have one.

Either way, you know that running a blog is not an easy task.

A lot goes into operating a website and having the support you need when you need it, is key to your success.

Maybe you have some questions about a plugin, or your site isn’t running correctly, or you just need some gosh darn guidance, you’re going to feel better if you know who to contact and have confidence that they will actually help you.

Don’t make your blogging life more difficult by choosing a company that doesn’t have your best interest at heart.

Because it will cost you your time and your money.

DO make your blogging life easier by choosing the right company to host your website…TMDhosting.

For a limited time only, TMDHosting is 65% off!  Don’t miss out!

First things first, I do not recommend Shared Web Hosting – from any hosting site.  Not because the company is bad, but sharing your web space is bad.

My site was as slow as molasses on shared web hosting and frequently crashed – because it was always fighting for space.

So, I recommend you start your business with Cloud Hosting.

Cloud Hosting is faster and more reliable than shared hosting and is what I recommend.

Therefore, the comparison between TMDHosting and SiteGround will be based on their Cloud Hosting Plans.

So, if you’re in the market for web hosting or are looking to improve your website, this post will help you make your decision!

1:  TMDHosting is CHEAPER…much, much cheaper.
TMDHosting is better than Bluehost, best wordpress host, wordpress hosting

What is better than saving money?

Uhhhh…yeah…that’s what I thought.  Nothing.

TMDHosting is only $5.95/month — SiteGround: $80.00/month.

Yep, you read that correctly.  SiteGround charges EIGHTY dollars per month for their Cloud Hosting.

*blank stares*

Now, let me stop you and let you know that if you spend $80.00/month for your websites hosting, YOU’RE CRAZY!

Straight cray.

As I mentioned, I recommend Cloud Hosting as opposed to Shared Web Hosting because of its speed and reliability.

However, most hosting companies advertise their cheapest plans first – which is usually shared hosting.

When you use shared web hosting, you’re doing exactly what it says.

Sharing your web space.

When my site was unbearably slow and prone to crashing, I immediately switched to cloud hosting and all my problems were solved.

In addition to low costs and kickass website speed, with the purchase of a TMD hosting plan, you also get:

1. A free domain

2. 24/7 technical support.

3. Unlimited website space. (with SiteGround you only get 4 GB)

4. And you get a 60-day money back guarantee…SiteGround offers no money back guarantee for cloud plans

You get so. much. more with TMDHosting for so. much. less. #$$$

TMDHosting 1, SiteGround 0.

2: TMDHosting has unlimited SSD space and is 32% faster than most hosts

So there’s this thing in the computer world called SSD space and it’s apparently bucketloads better than HHD space.

Why?

It is hella fast.  Like 32x faster than HHD space.

Both TMDHosting and SiteGround offer SSD Space with their Starter Cloud Hosting Plans, so that’s a good start.

However, TMDHosting offers unlimited SSD Space, while SiteGround offers only 40GB of SSD Space.

This means that eventually with SiteGround you’ll have to update to an even more expensive plan to get more space.

Let me just state for the record that you could eventually be spending upwards of $200 per month with SiteGround for optimal site space and speed.

No.  Just no.

Save mad cash by starting your business with TMDHosting.

TMDHosting 2, SiteGround 0.

3: TMDHosting customer service kicks ass

As you can see in the image above, TMD has a great reputation for their customer service.

Upon arriving on their website, you are instantly greeted with a message from an experienced sales person to help you choose the right plan for your website needs.

I used this service when I first switched to TMDHosting and the experience was phenomenal.

They helped me choose the best plan for the best cost and then got me over to their technical services to transfer my site.

A+ job, for real.

In comparison, SiteGrounds customer service was great as well.

Although you are not instantly welcomed with assistance, their live chat is readily available.

I spoke with somebody via live chat to get some information about their products and I was happy with the experience.

They were prompt and answered all my questions.

So, customer service is great for both companies.

But, is it worth the high price tag that comes with SiteGround?

Let me save you the brain power.

It’s not. 😉

TMDHosting 3, SiteGround 0.

4: TMDHosting installs and sets up EVERYTHING for you.  FOR FREE.
TMDHosting is better than Bluehost, best wordpress host, wordpress hosting

If you’re purchasing hosting because you are starting a blog, you’re going to need WordPress installed.

TMDHosting will install WordPress for you…at no additional cost.

All you have to do is put in a ticket with technical support upon purchasing a plan and that’s it.  They’ll let you know when your site is up and ready to operate.

Along with installing your WordPress site, TMD also:

  • installs WordPress plugins that you may need
  • installs your WordPress theme
  • and updates your WordPress as needed

TMD takes the stress out of starting your blog.

SiteGround also offers a “1-click” WordPress installer, but this is handled by you directly and not a technical support member.

And for those of you who already have a WordPress site hosted with another host, you’re in good luck.

TMDHosting will transfer your current site for you, for free, with zero downtime.

That’s right – you can easily transfer your current site with no downtime to a host that will make your blog 32x faster and save you money.

SiteGround is also able to transfer existing sites to their service which I found out via live chat with a technical service rep.

However, instead of transferring my site for me, he sent me a link to a “how to transfer your existing site” article.

Hmm, let us just say that this is not what I meant when asking if they transfer existing sites for their new customers.

So, take the stress out of creating your new site and let a professional take the reins for you on TMD.

TMDHosting 4, SiteGround 0.

5: TMDHOSTING OFFERS SO MANY EXTRAS WHEN SIGNING UP

Just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, TMDHosting offers even more for such a low cost.

Not only do they offer faster website speeds, 24/7 customer support, and site security, they also offer boat-loads of free downloads such as apps, plugins, and templates.

My favorite extra feature that they offer is their drag and drop site builder.

If you’re not experienced with WordPress or with coding HTML, easily creating a website is hard.  Like, soooo much harder than I ever would have expected.

I haven’t personally used TMD’s site builder, but I do use a different drag and drop site builder (called Divi) and it changed the game for us.

Creating a clean and functional website was made 1000x easier when we started using a drag and drop site builder.

And TMDHosting gives you one for free with your purchase of their hosting.

Cha-ching!

Ooooohh yeeeaaahh…I think we can agree that TMDHosting is clearly the best WordPress host out there.

TMDHosting 5, SiteGround 0.

I don’t know about you, but it seems pretty clear which is the better hosting company.

TMDHosting.

They offer the best customer and technical support, are cheaper, and faster than SiteGround.

And that, to me, seems like a no-brainer when choosing the best company to host your website.

So, what are you waiting for?!  Are you gonna start your blog stress-free with the best blog hosting out there, or what?!

TMDHosting is so underrated and I just cannot figure out why.  Maybe it’s simply because they haven’t been discovered by the big dogs yet.  But when they do, rest assured, you’ll never hear of Bluehost again.

Because TMDHosting ROCKS.  On sooooooo many levels.

Now, I do not aim to badmouth Bluehost.

I do, however, aim to tell you why TMDHosting is 10x better than Bluehost.

Cost, website speed, and customer/technical support are important to you, right?

Good.  Then you’ll have no problem agreeing with me that TMDHosting outdoes Bluehost on all those fronts making TMDHosting the best WordPress host on the market.

1: TMDHOSTING’S CUSTOMER SERVICE ROCKS
TMDHosting is better than Bluehost, best wordpress host, wordpress hosting

Customer service means a lot to me…as I’m sure it does to you, too.

It’s so important that it is the first thing I look for in reviews before deciding on a company to work with.

If I can’t easily get in touch with you with questions and concerns, I’m out.

And, unfortunately, that is exactly what happened with Bluehost.

Now, let me explain.  In no way do I intend to bad mouth Bluehost or the people who use and promote their site.  My only intention is to give you my full and honest review because I did have a very different and distinct experience that I feel needs to be shared with other new (or old) bloggers out there.

Because blogging is hard.  And because starting a website from scratch is hard.  And having no support in the process when you run into issues with your website is hard…and frustrating…and just downright unprofessional.

Having had no prior experience creating and running a blog, me and Matt had to do a lot of research on our own and ultimately followed the recommended steps and services that others provided us.

Then we ran into some issues…nay, LOTS of issues.

Our site was constantly crashing.  Or its changes wouldn’t be saved.  Or our site frequently experienced glitches.

And we had no idea why.

When we would attempt to contact Bluehost to figure out why our site was not operating correctly, we would always walk away feeling even more confused.

Getting in touch with their support team via live chat was awful.  Every single time I tried to chat with somebody, it would take 10-30 minutes to connect (because they are always sooooooooo busy) and if it ever did connect, I would almost always get disconnected mid-conversation.

Email was no better.

So…maybe Bluehost’s customer service isn’t crap…but you’d only know that if by some slim chance you ever got in touch with them.

Finally, we had had enough and began researching other hosting services.

TMDHosting was one of many services that we researched and is a million times better than Bluehost for so. many. reasons.

But first and foremost, their customer service is amazing.

Like really…really amazing.

Upon arriving on their website, you are instantly connected with a customer service agent via live chat that is ready to take care of all of your needs.  They walk you through the entire purchasing process to make sure your questions are answered and to ensure that the plan you are purchasing is the best choice for your business.

Seriously, they rock.

And it doesn’t end there.

Once you’re using TMDHosting as your hosting service for your WordPress blog (or website), their team of technical support is on call 24/7.

Yes, you read that right.  They are always available to help you.

And I can vouch for them.

I’m quite technically challenged and thus have had to submit many a ticket to their technical support crew to help me through some site issues.  Each time, they have gotten back to me within the first half hour, kept me up-to-date with what they were doing to fix my site’s issue, and then updated me when the issue was fixed. Some things were fixed within minutes, while others took longer due to the extent of the issue.

But regardless, every single time I’ve dealt with their customer service or technical support, they have fixed my issue ASAP.

And that, my friends, is immeasurable to me when it comes to my business connections.

2: TMDHOSTING IS CHEAPER THAN BLUEHOST
TMDHosting is better than Bluehost, best wordpress host, wordpress hosting
TMDHosting is better than Bluehost, best wordpress host, wordpress hosting

What is better than saving money??

Uhhhh…yeah…that’s what I thought.  Nothing.

Why would you choose to spend more money and get less?

  • Less support,
  • less website space,
  • and less flexibility.

Yep, TMDHosting out does Bluehost on all of those fronts.

Both Bluehost and TMDHosting offer their best price when you sign up for a three-year term.  That is, you have to pay upfront for three years of hosting.

TMDHosting is only $2.95/month — Bluehost: $3.95.

With the purchase of a TMD hosting plan, you also get:

1. A free domain

2. 24/7 technical support — who actually answer and fix your concerns.

3. Unlimited website space. (with Bluehost you only get 50 GB)

4. And you get a 60-day money back guarantee…Bluehost’s policy is only for 30-days.

You get so. much. more with TMDHosting for so. much. less. #$$$

TMDHosting 2, Bluehost 0.

3: TMDHosting offers faster website speeds
fastest wordpress host, TMDHosting is better than Bluehost, best wordpress host, wordpress hosting

Have you ever clicked on a blog via Pinterest and then waited and waited and waited for it to load?  Ugh! The worst, right?

Don’t let that be your site by signing up with TMDHosting.

TMD offers the newest technology in the website hosting world.

From what I understand…and in not so technical terms…TMD uses SSD drives on their servers while other hosting companies, such as Bluehost, use a slower type of drive called HDD.

Hosting a site with SSD drives will make your site 20x faster than sites hosted on Bluehost.

Better yet, SSD space is more reliable, so your site won’t crash…ever.

With TMDHosting, you get unlimited SSD space for a cheaper price than the competition.  (Bluehost only offers 50 GB of website space for a higher price.)

You guessed it – TMDHosting 3, Bluehost 0.

4: TMD installs your WordPress site for you – for free!

TMD takes the stress out of starting your blog.

Bluehost also claims to install WordPress for you, but not so much.  They “walk you through” the process of installing it – but let me tell you, we tried this and it is not easy.  We had to hire a tech friend experienced with WordPress to do it for us since Bluehost was no help.

So, take the stress out of creating your new site and let a professional take the reins for you on TMD.

And for those of you who already have a WordPress site hosted with another host, you’re in good luck.

TMDHosting will transfer your current site for you, for free, with zero downtime.

That’s right – you can easily transfer your current site with no downtime to a host that will make your blog 20x faster and save you money.
