Getting traffic to your blog is one of the most important factors for success.

Because without traffic, you’re not getting any exposure.  And without exposure, you’re not gonna make any sales.

Which is fine if you’re not trying to make any money from your blog (you totally should be, though), but you still deserve eyes on the wonderful content you’re taking the time to create.

But, how do you increase blog traffic?

I struggled with this for quite some time during this first year blogging, but I’ve finally discovered the methods that work best to drive massive amounts of traffic to your blog.

I increased my pageviews by 64% in 30 short days.

I’ve been blogging for 10 months now, but it was only as of recent months that I began to get serious about my blog’s traffic and sales.

Before I began to focus on getting more traffic (and in turn, generating more sales), I was averaging about 3,000 page views per month.

Not terrible, but certainly not anything to brag about.  I mean, there are blogs out there that generate tens of thousands of views per day.

However, massive amounts of page views aren’t anything to brag about on there own – it’s only if you’re able to turn those pageviews (big or small) into sales that you should start bragging.

So, when I wanted to finally get serious about making money from my blog I scoured the internet for resources on how to increase blog traffic.

I found tons of awesome information that I have put into action this month to increase my page views.  

And, I have to say that I am impressed.

A 64% increase in page views (and an increase in sales) is something that I am proud to brag about…humbly 😉

The best part about my increase in blog traffic is that it can be done for FREE.  Everything I learned was through free resources and free services.

So, you ready to increase your blog traffic in 30 days with three simple steps?

First things first, you gotta figure out what you can offer people in exchange for money and how you want to differentiate yourself from the crowd.

AKA, define your business and your brand.

If you want to establish yourself as a business rather than a blog, you need to earn an income from your blog.

And if you want to earn an income from your blog, you need to sell something.  Whether you have a service or a product, you need something to offer your ideal customer.


So, got any special knowledge about a certain topic?  Feel super passionate about something?  Have a kickass product you need the world to see?

Once you figure out what it is you have to offer the world, it’s time to monetize your blog.

Here are a few ways you can monetize your blog (aka, turn it into a business) no matter what your niche is:

  • eBooks
  • eCourses
  • ePlanners
  • Physical product
  • Affiliate marketing

For example, on our blog, we sell our Budget Boss Financial Planner and also do some affiliate marketing.  In the future, we hope to offer more ePlanners and eCourses.


Awesome!  We’ve established your basic business model.

Now it’s time to create your brand.  Your brand will help people recognize you easier across multiple social networks.  Your brand also helps to distinguish yourself as a business rather than a hobby, you know?

So, what things should you consider when creating your brand?

  • Colors – I recommend keeping this to as few as possible.
  • Fonts – Again, keep it simple.  You can find tons of free fonts to download at
  • Style – What’s your writing style?  Super serious or a little more laid back?  Having a consistent voice will help people recognize your content.
  • Design – What do you want your pins to look like on Pinterest?  How about your landing pages?  Photos?  Make sure the design of your website is consistent across all pages and on social media to help people — you guessed it – recognize you.

As you can see, we use the same three colors and two fonts across all our web pages and on Pinterest.

Now, our website and Pinterest didn’t always look like this.

That’s why I really, reeeaalllyy recommend spending a good chunk of time really figuring out what you want your business and brand to be and say.

Do you want it to be feminine or bold?  Sassy or serious?  Creative or simple?

Since I didn’t devote enough time to this in the early stages of my blog, I had to do a complete redesign a few months into blogging.

While this isn’t catastrophic, it was hella time-consuming.

I had to redesign every single page of my website, my Pinterest pins, and my emails with MailChimp.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m so happy with how the redesign turned out, but dang it, it took a lot of time.  A lot of wasted time that could have been avoided had I figured out my business model and my brand before launching my blog.

In order to keep our designs consistent, we use the Divi Theme on our website and Canva for all our Pinterest designs.

And while it’s not free, I cannot recommend the Divi Theme enough if you want complete control over the branding of your business.

Canva is an awesome site that offers free memberships for designing anything from Pinterest pins to eBooks and printables.  Seriously, it’s awesome.  I use the free version and it suits my needs wonderfully.  I create all my images for my blog and Pinterest on Canva and I love how simple and accessible it is!


MailChimp is the email service I use for my blog and is FREE up to 2,000 subscribers.  It’s easy to use and has awesome design abilities.  You have complete control over the look of your emails, whether you like simple or fancy.  MailChimp uses a drag and drop builder, making designing emails easy and quick!


If you don’t use Pinterest to market your online business, you should start.

Pinterest has over 175 million monthly active users.

AKA, Pinterest has over 175 million people that you could potentially reach, inspire, and sell your products to.

So if you don’t have a Pinterest, you gotta go sign up.  Just click here!  When you’re signing up for Pinterest, here are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Pinterest is NOT a social media platform.  Pinterest IS a search engine.
  • Pinterest is NOT niche stingy.  As in, there is a home for your niche on Pinterest, I promise.
  • Pinterest is an extension of your online business and brand, so treat it like you would treat your business.

These three things are important to remember when getting serious about Pinterest so you can use the platform to your advantage.

Pinterest is not social media:
Alright, so Pinterest isn’t a social media platform, but how does that translate into marketing your business?

Well, since Pinterest is a search engine, SEO is super important.

Making it easy for Pinterest to find your content is key, which is why keywords are so important.

Lucky for us, finding relevant keywords on Pinterest is super easy.  Just start typing in the search bar on Pinterest and tons of suggestions will appear.

These suggestions are your keywords.

For instance, when I search “blog traffic,” things like “tips,” “increase,” and “how to get” come up.

So, these are common keywords for this blog post topic.

But, how do you use these keywords to your advantage?

Use them in your Pinterest board descriptions, Pinterest pins, and throughout your blog post.

That way, when somebody searches “how to increase blog traffic,” your blog post will show up.

Pinterest is not niche stingy:
So, what’s a niche?

A niche is a specific topic that you can relate products and services to a specialized population of people who are interested in the same topic.

For example, your niche could be:

  • budgeting
  • knitting
  • motherhood
  • yoga
  • hiking
  • traveling
  • lifestyle
  • gardening

Literally, any niche can be found on Pinterest so never feel like you won’t make money because you’re blogging about knitting.

I bet there are some people out there that are so serious about knitting that they would buy an eBook from you teaching them how to knit a baby blanket.

Get creative with what you have to offer.  If you have something to teach, there will be people who want to learn.

If you’re looking for money rather than following your passion, these are the blog niches that make the most money:

  • Blogs about how to make money (ironic, right?)
  • Personal Finance
  • Health and Fitness

So, choose a niche and brainstorm the product(s) and service(s) you can offer your target audience!

Pinterest is an extension of your business and brand:
Like I mentioned, Pinterest is not a social media platform, so there are a few things you should do right after creating an account:

  1. Switch to a business account by clicking here
  2. Enable rich pins by clicking here

Now that your Pinterest is set up for business, it’s time to start reaching your customers by customizing your profile.

How To Customize Your Pinterest Profile:

  • Put niche related keywords at the end of your Pinterest name
  • Put relevant keywords in your description and link to a freebie or product/service you have to offer
  • Upload a clear, professional image/logo to make your blog easily recognizable

Here’s what our Pinterest profile looks like after customizing it:

As you can see, I’ve included niched related keywords in my Pinterest profile name and a keyword rich description that directly reflects the content on my website.

I also link to our free Budget Boss Binder in our Pinterest description so viewers know what goodies we have to offer.

It is important that your Pinterest profile reflects your website so readers and potential customers have a clear image of what you have to offer.

When you click through to from Pinterest, you’ll be greeted with a landing page that looks similar in design and has a similar call to action as our Pinterest profile.

(Hint: You want people to sign up to your mailing list, so make it easy for them to do so.)

Next, let’s focus on your Pinterest Boards.

Since this Pinterest is for your business, you shouldn’t use it for your personal interests.

As in, you shouldn’t have a board labeled “Makeup Tips” on your Pinterest for your health and fitness blog.

The only Pinterest boards that you should have are boards that are relevant to your blog.

So, if your business/blog is focused on health and fitness, these are some relevant board titles you might want to use:

  • Workout Tips
  • Workout Routines for Busy Moms
  • Healthy Recipes
  • Fitness Motivation

Use Pinterest’s search bar to find relevant keywords for your niche and create boards with those titles.

Aim to create 10-20 boards to get you started and continue to create new boards as you discover the kind of content that your audience enjoys.

Don’t forget to create a board that is dedicated to your blogs Pins only! (And make it the first board on your profile.)

Once you’ve created your niche related Pinterest boards, it’s time to customize them for optimal traffic with these steps:

  1. Create branded board covers
  2. Fill in board descriptions with keywords so you’re discoverable when those keywords are searched for
  3. Pin quality (and relevant) pins to your boards

Awesome!  You’ve transformed your Pinterest into a business profile that is optimized for traffic!

But, how the heck do you get people to your profile and then to your website?

Creating branded pins that will stand out on Pinterest is not as hard as it seems.

Especially when you’re using Canva.

I honestly don’t know what I would do without Canva.

Canva makes designing images and elements for your blog and social media accounts a freakin’ breeze.  It uses a drag and drop system so it is super easy to use.

I suggest creating 2-3 pin templates that you can use over and over again each time you write a new post.

All you’ll have to do is switch out the words and the imagery and you’ll be set.

Doing this has saved me so much time.  It used to take me hours to create three pins for a post, but with Canva, they are done in a few minutes. 

I highly suggest you make two to three different pins per post in order to gain optimal exposure.

Another pin template I suggest you make is one for infographics.

Infographics do tremendously well on Pinterest and I’ve had great results since using them more frequently.

So, what are you waiting for?!

Go create some pins!

(And then pin them to your relevant Pinterest boards)


So you have this awesome Pinterest profile and equally awesome Pinterest pins.

Now all you gotta do is get people to see them.

That is where Pinterest Group Boards come in.

Group boards on Pinterest are like a giant collaboration between people in similar niches all sharing their kickass content in one location.

And seriously guys, there are group boards out there for every niche.

My favorite tool to find group boards to pin to is PinGroupie.

Pin Groupie lets you search group boards based on topic/keyword and displays all relevant boards for you to browse.

Once you’ve found a board that seems like a good fit, click on over to their Pinterest profile to see the requirements for being added as a contributor to the board.

Most times, the information can be easily found in the description of the board.  But, if there isn’t any information, I like to send them a friendly direct message asking how I should go about being added as a contributor.

Every couple of months I will browse new group boards and send out requests to be added to 20-30 boards.  I usually hear back from 3-5 of these boards and am added as a contributor.

Doing this every few months allows me to grow my exposure through group boards and thus leads more traffic back to my blog.

In my opinion, the more group boards you can contribute to (that are relevant), the better.

You can also try out Tailwind tribes to increase your blog traffic.

This is something that I have not dabbled in yet, but you can find some great information from You Baby Me Mummy’s post here.  She even includes a list of 25 tribes for you to join!

strategically Schedule pins with tailwind 

It’s finally time to strategically schedule your pins with Tailwind so you can automate your Pinterest marketing.

First things first, you’re gonna wanna install Tailwinds browser extension by clicking here.

Then, once a week use the Tailwind Extension to schedule a week’s worth of pins in an hour or less.

Doing this will automate your Pinterest marketing and increase your traffic!

Simply go to Pinterest and follow these steps:

  1. Go to your boards (and group boards that you contribute to) and select all the pins you want to pin with the Tailwind Extension

2. Schedule each pin to relevant boards. (use the “Board Lists” tool in Tailwind to group together similar boards to save time)

3. Once you’ve scheduled a good amount of pins, head on over to your Tailwind account and click on “Scheduled Pins.”  This is where you’ll see all of the pins that you just scheduled.  Simply shuffle the queue with the button at the top of the page and you’re good to go for an entire week! (or month, depending on how many pins you scheduled)

After doing massive amounts of *FREE* research, I was able to put Pinterest and Tailwind to the test last month.

I’ve increased my pageviews by 64% in the last 30 days and am still seeing an increase each day moving forward.
