How To Convince Your Boss To Let You Work From Home

Jan 14, 2019Lifestyle0 comments

If you’ve never worked from home before, you probably have no idea how you can go about it.

For some, working from home is never feasible given the industry that they work in, but if you worked in an industry where you can work from your spare room or office, then why not go for it?

You may be thinking that it’s a good idea to change up your life by working from your house instead of commuting in, but you have one major hurdle to consider, and that’s your boss.

Has it ever crossed your mind that with enough research and planning, there’s a chance that you could get your boss to allow you to work from home?

Some people out there end up working from home without the choice, if they’re laid up after an accident, for example. There are employers out there that will encourage people waiting for their personal injury lawyer claim to work from home while they recuperate and feel better, and then come back to the office when they’re ready to.

There are also employers out there that are coming around to the idea of remote working and the benefits that come with it for them.

The point is that you need to convince your boss that it’s a good idea. So, let’s take a look.

CONVINCE YOUR BOSS TO LET YOU WORK FROM HOME

SLOWLY DOES IT

If you’re working a standard job and you’re the only person asking to work from home, you may hit a wall quite quickly.

Start by asking your boss to do one or two days a week at first, building slowly up to a full week.

If you can prove that working from home isn’t going to impact your work, then you’re going to have a better chance of convincing them it’s a great idea.

BUILD IT UP

You have to build a case to bring to the table, putting your employers’ interests first.

If you can show your boss that you will be more productive than you are now and that you are able to hit your deadlines without being in the office with them, you’re going to have a good shot at proving that it’s a good idea.

Show them that the office is hindering your productivity and you have a solution that works for all.

BACK UP PLAN

If you show that you can get to the office quickly if necessary, you’re more likely to show your boss that you are reliable and you don’t need to wait for an actual emergency for this to happen.

Let them see you are flexible and that you can get into the office as needed.

GET IT IN WRITING

When you have succeeded in working out an agreement that allows you to work from home, get it on paper.

You need to be able to trust a verbal agreement, but backing it up with a formal contract is smart!

Working from home can be an exciting, productive way to work. Now, it’s time to show the management team that they should let you do it!
