12 Simple Life Habits To Start For A Healthier + Happier Life
Working towards a better me is always on my to-do list.
What about yours?
In my opinion, there is always room for growing and learning and exploring.
So, I often seek out ways to improve life and have found these simple habits have transformed my life the most.

You see, living life to the fullest (no matter how cliche) and becoming the best version of yourself are two things that you should make time for every single day.
Because, little changes add up to big changes.
Focusing on daily habits that enrich your life, such as improving your mental and physical health, creating better bonds, and becoming more knowledgeable, will only make your life better.
So, I challenge you to incorporate something new into your life and stick with it for a month – the perfect amount of time to form a habit.
And, although all of our goals are different, here are the twelve life changing habits that every single person can benefit from.
1. Utilize Your Planner
The best way for you to start + stick with new habits is to write them down.
And the best place to write them down? Your planner!
You see, you will always be more likely to follow through with something if you write it down first.
So, get yourself a planner that you love. And, stat! (Our Life Boss Planner is amazing!)
See, if you’re anything like me (and I suspect you are,) you absolutely cannot write something down in your perfect planner and then NOT do it.
Oh! And the sweet satisfaction you feel when you get to check it off your to-do list? Too good to miss!
So, make it a habit to schedule out “planner time” each night before bed to wind down from the day, reflect, and plan for tomorrow.
Trust me, you’ll wake up feeling more organized and more motivated than ever.
TAKE ACTION: Find your perfect planner so you don’t go another day without organization and productivity in your life.
2. Get & Keep Your Finances In Order
Paying attention to your finances and sticking to a monthly budget is a necessary habit to introduce into your life (if you haven’t already.)
I mean, nobody enjoys wasting money or being broke, right?
So, you need to know where your money is coming from and going towards each month. (The Budget Boss Binder is a great resource to organize and track your finances.)
See, even though having a budget is hella important to living a healthy and balanced life, I find more often than not that most people do not have a plan for their money.
And, well, this BLOWS MY MIND.
I mean, if you have a job and bills, then you need a budget.
To start this new habit, evaluate your current budget plan (or lack thereof) and make sure that it is working by asking yourself these questions:
- does the thought of money stress you out?
- are you short for bills a lot?
- are you living paycheck to paycheck?
If you answered yes to any of those questions, start to explore new budget options, such as the automated budget system that we use and love.

3. Start Saving For The Future
I’m willing to bet that there is something you want, but can’t quite afford yet.
Maybe it’s a new purse, a brand-new car, or even a house.
Regardless of what, though, we can all agree that most people have something that they wish they could afford to buy.
So, why not have an efficient savings plan set up that you can put into play whenever there’s something you’re looking to buy?
This way, you don’t have to think about saving money.
I guarantee you, making this a habit now will benefit you loads in the future, over and over again.
TAKE ACTION: Open a high-interest APY savings account and automatically deposit money into it each pay cycle.

4. Drink More Water
I know, I know. Another blog post telling you to drink more water.
And for good reason!
More than half of our bodies are made up of water so it’s obvious how essential it is to be replenishing your water intake each day.
I didn’t always drink the recommended 8-10 glasses of water a day, and when I started to, I could 100% tell the difference.
There are SO many health benefits to drinking more water including:
- clearer skin
- healthier hair
- stronger nails
- more energy
- weight loss
And, if your water bottle is always with you, it’ll become a habit to drink more throughout the day.
TAKE ACTION: Purchase a Hydroflask and bring it everywhere.
5. Start A Night Routine
It is so easy to head to bed totally exhausted, too tired to prepare for tomorrow.
Or take your eyeliner off, for that matter.
However, having a night routine to wind-down and prepare for the following day is a crucial habit to form if you want to become more productive with your time and more accountable with your goals.
Cool! But, like, what’s a night routine and how do you start one?
Good question. Let’s take a peek at my night routine for some inspiration.
So, a solid night routine should most importantly start with shutting down from all electronics at least a half hour before you go to sleep.
Then, I like to:
- wash my face
- brush my teeth
Getting a good night sleep is the foundation to having a productive and successful day, so do your future self a favor by creating an awesome night routine!

6. Start A Morning Routine
There is nothing worse than waking up in the morning feeling tired, disheveled, and unmotivated.
I mean, starting your day off wrong throws off your entire day as you try to play catch up with your to-do list while drinking cup after cup of coffee.
So, having a solid morning routine is just as important as having a night routine to enhance motivation and productivity throughout the day.
You ended the night before on a positive and productive note and it would be a shame to not follow-through with that productivity the next morning
To start, make it a habit to wake up at the same time each morning.
A time, that is right, for you.
Pick a time that allows you to have a solid amount of sleep, but also gives you ample time in the morning to get your sh*t together before having to run out the door.
Because, giving yourself that extra time to wake up, stretch, make yourself a good breakfast, and go over the things you need to do that day will set the stage for a stress free day.

7. Get Organized On Sunday’s
Sunday’s are meant for pajamas and football, right?
(Are you catching onto the pattern of these habits? I’m telling ya, taking a few minutes out of your day to plan for the future will make your life so. much. easier.)
I mean, there is nothing worse than waking up late for work, rushing around to find clean clothes, and jetting out the door without breakfast.
Cue an unsuccessful day, amiright?
Taking a small amount of time each Sunday to prepare for the upcoming week will make your life so much easier.
On Sunday’s I love to:
- reevaluate my goals for the
- meal plan + food prep
- plan my work outfits
This way, come Monday morning, when I wake up needing five more hours of sleep and three large cups of coffee, I can easily get dressed (in the dark), grab my lunch from the fridge and head out the door with time to spare. (Cause Dunks, duh.)

8. Get On A Sleep Schedule
Ah, sleep…I would sleep twelve hours a day if I could.
Let’s just say, I am always DTN…down to nap.
This is one habit that I haven’t quite mastered yet but am working on each and every day.
You see, our bodies are designed to do things consistently, and often function better when we do.
So, to start this habit, download one of those cool sleep monitoring apps and figure out how many hours of sleep you require to fully replenish and reload for a new day.
Then, based off of that number, set a bedtime and a wake-up time, and stick. to. it.
Give your body what it wants!
9. Fit In Fitness
Getting old is no joke, and if you don’t continue to exercise, that process is going to be a long and painful one.
There are so many awesome ways to fit in exercise, such as:
- going for a walk
- weight training with Fitness Blender on YouTube (these weights are great for beginners!)
- swimming at your local gym
- going for a run
- yoga with Yoga With Adriene on YouTube (isn’t this the cutest yoga mat you’ve ever seen?!)
- going for a bike ride
- going for a hike
Exercising benefits you in
“But I don’t have the time to exercise.”
Such a classic line, and a valid one. I often use it myself.
But in reality, we can, and should, find some extra time in our day to fit in some form of exercise. Even it is just 30 minutes.
TAKE ACTION: Schedule exercise into your planner 3x a week.
10. Challenge Yourself
Just like your body needs to be exercised in order to stay fit and agile, so doesn’t your brain.
Your brain is not unlike any other muscle in your body and needs to be used consistently to keep it operating smoothly and correctly.
So, make it a habit to workout your brain daily, even just for thirty minutes.
- grab a good book (have you read this yet?!)
- play a board game with the family
- use brain stimulating apps on your phone
- color in an adult coloring book (Kendall Rae’s is AMAZING)
Psh, you can even use Netflix to help your brain…just hit up their documentary section and learn something new!
11. Don’t Sweat The Small Stuff
There is this awesome book called “Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff” that every person everywhere should keep on their nightstand.
“Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff” is an entire book of short snippets to help you realize that there are more important things to life. That often times, the things we stress about and get angry and upset about aren’t really that big of a deal.
See, practicing patience, kindness, and empathy will undoubtedly make your life simpler and stress-free.
So, try to think of all the things that stress you out, upset you, or infuriate you.
Now, look at the big picture – do those things really matter all that much?
Ten years, twenty years, or thirty years from now, will you even remember what it is that’s causing you such stress? Probably not.
Create this habit of not sweating the small stuff by taking a few seconds to take a deep breath and reevaluate your situation when you’re feeling stressed out and overwhelmed.
Positive energy should be goals, always.
12. Make Time For YOU
Now, even though we’re going to make it a habit to be more patient, kind, and understanding, it would be unrealistic to think that you’ll never feel stressed or upset again.
Which is totally fine! As long as you know how to manage those feelings.
Negative feelings are always temporary when you make it a habit to quickly address and resolve those feelings.
My favorite way to destress is to break out my pamper routine.
I mean, we bust our butt’s on the daily and we deserve some us time, goddamit!
Now, this may be difficult for some people, but your happiness is just as important as the people’s around you and you deserve a break every now and then.
So, make it a habit to recognize when you need

I think we can all agree that a stress-free life is a happier life.
I mean, who enjoys running around like a chicken with their head cut off?
Not me, that’s for sure!
Making it a habit to set up routines in multiple areas of my life has helped tremendously when it comes to staying more organized and less stressed, and has increased my overall satisfaction of life.
So, I hope some of these habits can find a home in your life and bring you more organization and relaxation!
