Assuming you’re one of the millions of people who uses social media these days, you could probably list a handful of influencers in a short amount of time.
Influencers have been around pretty much since social media began.
They are the people we look to for advice on things like fashion, beauty, fitness, and more.
They are so influential, in fact, that they often get paid to wear a particular item or promote a certain brand.
Many influencers even do it as their full time gig!
Some of the links in this post are “affiliate links.” This means if you click on link and purchase the item, I will receive an affiliate commission.
Because of this, other people often wonder what it really takes to become an influencer.
Do you just have to be jaw droppingly beautiful with a unique style to rival Vanessa Hudgens or Johnny Depp?
Anybody can be an influencer – but it takes time, and whole lot of effort.
Here, we’ll explore what it really takes to become an influencer if this is something you have been thinking about.
1. Figure out your niche
If you want to become a popular and renowned influencer, you can’t really talk about anything and everything and hope for the best.
It’s more valuable if you think of your niche and run with it.
Your niche should be something you feel really passionate about.
It should be something that you will want to write about for a very long time. It shouldn’t be something that you think will be popular, or that you want to write about for all of the wrong reasons.
All influencers become successful because they know what their niche is.
2. Find your social media channel
Now it’s time to find your social media channel.
Instagram is probably the most popular channel for influencers and wannabe influencers these days.
However, both Facebook and YouTube are also great options.
That being said, you might also want to look into other social channels if you think your audience is using them.
3. Develop a content strategy
A content strategy ensures you’re creating high quality content consistently enough to keep people interested and coming back for more.
Having one of these in place means that you won’t be tempted to post sporadically!
4. Get a virtual address
A virtual address means that businesses and even your fans can send you free things to potentially review.
Getting a virtual address for mailers can also protect your real address and keep you safe.
5. Know your audience
Knowing your audience will give you a good idea of how to brand yourself and the social channels you use.
Who do you want to speak to?
6. Build a relationship with your audience
Once you know who your audience are, you can also work to build relationships with them.
All great influencers show their audience that they care by responding to them.
7. Build relationships with other influencers
Building relationships with other influencers can be mutually beneficial, so make sure you’re prepared to network.
8. Strengthen your personal brand
Always work on strengthening your personal brand.
This is one of the most powerful things that an influencer can have!
