Working towards a better me is always on my to-do list.

What about yours?

In my opinion, there is always room for growing and learning and exploring.

So, I often seek out ways to improve life and have found these simple habits have transformed my life the most.

Are you ready to have your best year ever? Then it is time to focus on YOU and incorporate these 12 habits into your life. For a simpler, happier, and less stressful life, start these 12 healthy habits in 2019. Personal growth and your overall wellness are the most important things to focus on. It's time to have the best year ever! Happy New Year! Habits | How To Make Habits | Habits For Better Life | How To Live Better | How To Be Happy | Starting Habits | Habit Tips

You see, living life to the fullest (no matter how cliche) and becoming the best version of yourself are two things that you should make time for every single day.

Because, little changes add up to big changes.

Focusing on daily habits that enrich your life, such as improving your mental and physical health, creating better bonds, and becoming more knowledgeable, will only make your life better.

So, I challenge you to incorporate something new into your life and stick with it for a month – the perfect amount of time to form a habit.

And, although all of our goals are different, here are the twelve life changing habits that every single person can benefit from.

1.  Utilize Your Planner

The best way for you to start + stick with new habits is to write them down.

And the best place to write them down?  Your planner!

You see, you will always be more likely to follow through with something if you write it down first.

So, get yourself a planner that you love.  And, stat! (Our Life Boss Planner is amazing!)

See, if you’re anything like me (and I suspect you are,) you absolutely cannot write something down in your perfect planner and then NOT do it.

Oh!  And the sweet satisfaction you feel when you get to check it off your to-do list?  Too good to miss!

So, make it a habit to schedule out “planner time” each night before bed to wind down from the day, reflect, and plan for tomorrow.

Trust me, you’ll wake up feeling more organized and more motivated than ever.

TAKE ACTION:  Find your perfect planner so you don’t go another day without organization and productivity in your life.

2.  Get & Keep Your Finances In Order

Paying attention to your finances and sticking to a monthly budget is a necessary habit to introduce into your life (if you haven’t already.)

I mean, nobody enjoys wasting money or being broke, right?

So, you need to know where your money is coming from and going towards each month. (The Budget Boss Binder is a great resource to organize and track your finances.)

See, even though having a budget is hella important to living a healthy and balanced life, I find more often than not that most people do not have a plan for their money.

And, well, this BLOWS MY MIND.

I mean, if you have a job and bills, then you need a budget.

To start this new habit, evaluate your current budget plan (or lack thereof) and make sure that it is working by asking yourself these questions:

  • does the thought of money stress you out?
  • are you short for bills a lot?
  • are you living paycheck to paycheck?

If you answered yes to any of those questions, start to explore new budget options, such as the automated budget system that we use and love.

3.  Start Saving For The Future

I’m willing to bet that there is something you want, but can’t quite afford yet.

Maybe it’s a new purse, a brand-new car, or even a house.

Regardless of what, though, we can all agree that most people have something that they wish they could afford to buy.

So, why not have an efficient savings plan set up that you can put into play whenever there’s something you’re looking to buy?

This way, you don’t have to think about saving money.

I guarantee you, making this a habit now will benefit you loads in the future, over and over again.

TAKE ACTION:  Open a high-interest APY savings account and automatically deposit money into it each pay cycle.

4.  Drink More Water

I know, I know.  Another blog post telling you to drink more water.

And for good reason!

More than half of our bodies are made up of water so it’s obvious how essential it is to be replenishing your water intake each day.

I didn’t always drink the recommended 8-10 glasses of water a day, and when I started to, I could 100% tell the difference.

There are SO many health benefits to drinking more water including:

  • clearer skin
  • healthier hair
  • stronger nails
  • more energy
  • weight loss

And, if your water bottle is always with you, it’ll become a habit to drink more throughout the day.

TAKE ACTION:  Purchase a Hydroflask and bring it everywhere.

5.  Start A Night Routine

It is so easy to head to bed totally exhausted, too tired to prepare for tomorrow.

Or take your eyeliner off, for that matter.

However, having a night routine to wind-down and prepare for the following day is a crucial habit to form if you want to become more productive with your time and more accountable with your goals.

Cool!  But, like, what’s a night routine and how do you start one?

Good question.  Let’s take a peek at my night routine for some inspiration.

So, a solid night routine should most importantly start with shutting down from all electronics at least a half hour before you go to sleep.

Then, I like to:

  • stretch
  • wash my face
  • brush my teeth
  • read

Getting a good night sleep is the foundation to having a productive and successful day, so do your future self a favor by creating an awesome night routine!

6.  Start A Morning Routine

There is nothing worse than waking up in the morning feeling tired, disheveled, and unmotivated.

I mean, starting your day off wrong throws off your entire day as you try to play catch up with your to-do list while drinking cup after cup of coffee.

So, having a solid morning routine is just as important as having a night routine to enhance motivation and productivity throughout the day.

You ended the night before on a positive and productive note and it would be a shame to not follow-through with that productivity the next morning

life habits to start

To start, make it a habit to wake up at the same time each morning.

A time, that is right, for you.

Pick a time that allows you to have a solid amount of sleep, but also gives you ample time in the morning to get your sh*t together before having to run out the door.

Because, giving yourself that extra time to wake up, stretch, make yourself a good breakfast, and go over the things you need to do that day will set the stage for a stress free day.

Need some inspiration for your morning routine?  Check out the 7 things I do to have productive + stress-free days.

7.  Get Organized On Sunday’s

Sunday’s are meant for pajamas and football, right?

Wrong!

Sunday’s are meant for pajamas and planning!

(Are you catching onto the pattern of these habits?  I’m telling ya, taking a few minutes out of your day to plan for the future will make your life so. much. easier.)

I mean, there is nothing worse than waking up late for work, rushing around to find clean clothes, and jetting out the door without breakfast.

Cue an unsuccessful day, amiright?

Taking a small amount of time each Sunday to prepare for the upcoming week will make your life so much easier.

On Sunday’s I love to:

  • reevaluate my goals for the month
  • meal plan + food prep
  • plan my work outfits

This way, come Monday morning, when I wake up needing five more hours of sleep and three large cups of coffee, I can easily get dressed (in the dark), grab my lunch from the fridge and head out the door with time to spare.  (Cause Dunks, duh.)

TAKE ACTION:  Click and download your Sunday Routine Printable for easy meal planning and organizational help!

8.  Get On A Sleep Schedule

Ah, sleep…I would sleep twelve hours a day if I could.

Let’s just say, I am always DTN…down to nap.

This is one habit that I haven’t quite mastered yet but am working on each and every day.

Because, having a consistent sleep schedule is so key to functioning productively the next day.

You see, our bodies are designed to do things consistently, and often function better when we do.

So, to start this habit, download one of those cool sleep monitoring apps and figure out how many hours of sleep you require to fully replenish and reload for a new day.

Then, based off of that number, set a bedtime and a wake-up time, and stick. to. it.

Give your body what it wants!

9.  Fit In Fitness

Getting old is no joke, and if you don’t continue to exercise, that process is going to be a long and painful one.

There are so many awesome ways to fit in exercise, such as:

Exercising benefits you in sooo many different areas of your life, it’s a shame we don’t prioritize it better in our lives.

life habits to start

“But I don’t have the time to exercise.”

Such a classic line, and a valid one.  I often use it myself.

But in reality, we can, and should, find some extra time in our day to fit in some form of exercise.  Even it is just 30 minutes.

TAKE ACTION:  Schedule exercise into your planner 3x a week.

10.  Challenge Yourself

Just like your body needs to be exercised in order to stay fit and agile, so doesn’t your brain.

Your brain is not unlike any other muscle in your body and needs to be used consistently to keep it operating smoothly and correctly.

So, make it a habit to workout your brain daily, even just for thirty minutes.

You could,

Psh, you can even use Netflix to help your brain…just hit up their documentary section and learn something new!

11.  Don’t Sweat The Small Stuff

There is this awesome book called “Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff” that every person everywhere should keep on their nightstand.

Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff” is an entire book of short snippets to help you realize that there are more important things to life.  That often times, the things we stress about and get angry and upset about aren’t really that big of a deal.

See, practicing patience, kindness, and empathy will undoubtedly make your life simpler and stress-free.

So, try to think of all the things that stress you out, upset you, or infuriate you.

Now, look at the big picture – do those things really matter all that much?

Ten years, twenty years, or thirty years from now, will you even remember what it is that’s causing you such stress?  Probably not.

Create this habit of not sweating the small stuff by taking a few seconds to take a deep breath and reevaluate your situation when you’re feeling stressed out and overwhelmed.

Positive energy should be goals, always.

life habits to start

12.  Make Time For YOU

Now, even though we’re going to make it a habit to be more patient, kind, and understanding, it would be unrealistic to think that you’ll never feel stressed or upset again.

Which is totally fine!  As long as you know how to manage those feelings.

Negative feelings are always temporary when you make it a habit to quickly address and resolve those feelings.

life habits to start

My favorite way to destress is to break out my pamper routine.

I mean, we bust our butt’s on the daily and we deserve some us time, goddamit!

Now, this may be difficult for some people, but your happiness is just as important as the people’s around you and you deserve a break every now and then.

So, make it a habit to recognize when you need you time and actually take that time for you!  (Cuz nobody benefits from you when you’re burnt-out, sista!)

TAKE ACTION:  Click and download your Self Care Routine Printable and keep it handy for rainy days.

I think we can all agree that a stress-free life is a happier life.

I mean, who enjoys running around like a chicken with their head cut off?

Not me, that’s for sure!

Making it a habit to set up routines in multiple areas of my life has helped tremendously when it comes to staying more organized and less stressed, and has increased my overall satisfaction of life.

So, I hope some of these habits can find a home in your life and bring you more organization and relaxation!

**Bonus Goodies:  Ever feel like there isn’t enough time in the day?

I know, starting twelve new life habits is much easier said than done.

Between juggling your work, your life, and your family, is there really time for anything else?  And, how are you supposed to stay on top of your daily habits without feeling overwhelmed and anxious?

Do you struggle to get out of bed every morning?

I mean, really?  What’s better than cozying up in your blankets all day long ignoring life and your responsibilities?!

But, alas, we can’t always get what we want!

Having a morning routine has increased my energy and productivity immensely and has made for happier + more positive days!

Do you wish you were a morning person? You and me both, sista! I hated mornings until I started this self-care morning routine. This is a great morning routine for teens, for moms, for before work, for women, for kids, and for so many more. Use this morning routine to have happier and more productive days! Don't forget your FREE morning routine template + chart. #morningroutine #lifehacks

Some of the links in this post are “affiliate links.” This means if you click on the link and purchase the item, I will receive an affiliate commission.

Mornings are rough for lots of us.

If I could have it my way, I’d work till 3 am and sleep till noon.

But, those little boogered kids require I get my game face on a lot earlier than lunchtime, so a morning routine is my saving grace.

These are the 7 things you should add to your morning routine:

1.  Wake up at the same time each morning

2.  Hydrate

3.  Stretch + exercise

4.  Eat a healthy breakfast

5.  Your skincare routine

6.  Change out of your pj’s

7.  Review your plan for the day

This may seem like a lot, but it doesn’t take much time when you do it every morning and get into a good groove.

So, start this morning routine + set good intentions every morning to experience happier and more productive days!

1.  Wake up at the same time every morning

Just like you should have a bedtime that you consistently stick to, you should also be waking up around the same time each morning.

I know, I know.

Having to kick the old habit of sleeping in is HARD.  I still struggle with this every day.

BUT, I do feel better 100% of the time when I bite the bullet and get my damn ass out of bed when my alarm goes off.

MORNING ROUTINE - MORNING ROUTINE FOR MOMS - MORNING ROUTINE FOR TEENS - MORNING ROUTINE CHECKLIST

I mean, it makes so much sense to wake up at the same time each morning, giving our bodies a sense of routine and predictability.

I know you can relate, that on the mornings where you can’t seem to drag yourself out of bed + get a late start, you feel rushed, tired, and have an overall unproductive day.

So, let’s motivate each other through our morning routine to consistently get up at the same time each morning so we can have happier and more productive days, every day.

Wanna have happier and more productive days? Start your mornings with a morning routine! A morning routine is the perfect way to start your day and set your intention for happiness and productivity. Set your intent every morning with a kickass morning routine. You can make sure to follow your morning routine by downloading your free morning routine printable. Click and steal my morning routine! #morningroutine #routines #dailyroutines #mornings #productivemorningroutine #morningroutines

And, don’t forget.

Waking up at the same time each morning is way easier when you have a successful night routine in place because you’ll be getting enough sleep and a solid night’s rest.

PRO TIP:  Take baby steps towards your ideal wake-up time.  For instance, each day wake up 5 minutes earlier until you have reached your perfect wake up time.  You can motivate yourself by tracking your progress on a habit tracker like this.

2.  Hydrate with lemon water or tea

We all know how important it is to drink enough water each day, right?

Then, what better way to start your day than with some lemon water!

Paired with a light snack (for our workout), warm lemon water is the perfect way to start your morning routine and the habit of regular water consumption all day long.

I’m the kind of person who doesn’t like to eat breakfast right when I wake up, so this is a good way to get something in my stomach before I tackle the rest of my morning routine.

MORNING ROUTINE - MORNING ROUTINE FOR MOMS - MORNING ROUTINE FOR TEENS - MORNING ROUTINE CHECKLIST

I know most people like to start their mornings with a nice hot cup of coffee, but some say that their daily hot lemon water gives them just the right boost of energy first thing in the morning, without the caffeine.

Drinking warm lemon water is better than drinking coffee, too, because you won’t have a caffeine crash half way through the day.

3.  Stretch, do yoga, or workout (or do all three, you BADASS!)

I like to end my day with a stretch, as you read last week in my night routine post, and I enjoy starting my mornings with a good stretch, too.

And, psssst, there’s even stretching routines you can do in your bed!

I’ve got you hooked now, eh?

Whether you do some stretches right when you wake up before leaving your bed or after your morning lemon water, stretching is a great way to get your body moving and feeling energized for the day!

Wanna have happier and more productive days? Start your mornings with a morning routine! You can make sure to follow your morning routine by downloading your free morning routine printable. Click and steal my morning routine! #morningroutine #routines #dailyroutines #mornings #productivemorningroutine #morningroutines

Stretching is also an awesome (and necessary) start to your workout or yoga routine, so consider working your exercise for the day into your morning routine.

It is true that exercise gives you energy, so there really isn’t a better time to workout than in the morning.

And, don’t feel like you have to join a gym or own fancy equipment to be able to workout effectively!

I workout from the comfort of my living room, and it works just fine!

Helpful Resources:

1.  The Fitness Blender YouTube Channel – Hundreds of at home workouts for every experience level and interest such as pilates, weight training, and cardio.  Simply pull up a video on your tv or laptop and follow along in the comfort of your home.

2.  Yoga With Adrienne YouTube Channel – If yoga is your thing or you’ve been meaning to start up this healthy habit, Adrienne’s got you covered.  Her 30 Days of Yoga video series are amazing and I highly recommend.

3.  At home workout equipment – Equipment isn’t necessary to accomplish an at-home workout, however I do find the following items helpful, especially if you’re looking to up your game.

Dumbbells

Resistance bands

Yoga mat

Yoga blocks

4.  Eat a well-rounded breakfast

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, right?

But, how often do you put your breakfast on the back-burner and only grab a granola bar on your way out the door?  Or worse, you don’t eat breakfast at all?

I’m guilty of the latter more times than I’d like to admit, but we can all benefit from routinely eating a healthy, well-rounded breakfast, so we should fit it into our schedules every single day – during our morning routine.

My go-to breakfast is usually yogurt with fruit and granola, oatmeal, or breakfast toast.

All are great choices that are super filling and delicious, and equally easy to make!

MORNING ROUTINE - MORNING ROUTINE FOR MOMS - MORNING ROUTINE FOR TEENS - MORNING ROUTINE CHECKLIST

If you’re crunched for time in the morning, take the time to prepare your breakfast the night before.

Or, dedicate a day out of the week to food prepping, like I do on Sunday’s.

By food prepping, it only takes me an hour or two one day each week to have healthy and delicious meals all week long!

And, I can never use the excuse to skip breakfast because there is nothing to eat.

Do you wish you were a morning person? You and me both, sista! I hated mornings until I started this self-care morning routine. 5.  Your morning skin care routine

Washing your face (or showering), is essential after a long night of smooshing your face in a pillow.

And, washing your face is always a great way to wake yourself up, making it perfect for your morning routine.

I have super fussy skin, so I stick to a pretty ritualistic skin care routine!

My morning skin-care routine looks like this:

  1. I wash my face with a hydrating cleanser, like this Cetaphil one!
  2. I apply my Cetaphil moisturizer which also has SPF in it

And then, I’m ready to go!

MORNING ROUTINE - MORNING ROUTINE FOR MOMS - MORNING ROUTINE FOR TEENS - MORNING ROUTINE CHECKLIST

Most days I don’t have the time or the patience to deal with applying makeup, but on the days that I do, it’s some tinted moisturizer to even my skin tone, concealer to hide my eye bags, and a little bronzer!

This makes me feel more awake since I look more awake, ha!

Not to mention the confidence boost my morning skincare and makeup routine gives me knowing I don’t look like a cast member from The Walking Dead.

6.  Change out of your pajamas

I don’t know about you, but if I stay in my pajamas all day long, I’ll never get anything done!

Cause, hey, if I’m in my pajamas it’s not my fault that all I can think about is crawling into my cozy bed! Zzzzzz

Each morning, put together an outfit that gives you confidence because you’re more likely to have a great and productive day if you feel good about yourself!

So, do yourself a favor and change out of those sweats!  (Leggings are acceptable and highly encouraged.)

If you can’t be bothered to put an outfit together each morning, plan ahead on Sunday’s and plan your outfits for the entire week!  You can even DIY some cute labeled hangers and have fun with it!

MORNING ROUTINE - MORNING ROUTINE FOR MOMS - MORNING ROUTINE FOR TEENS - MORNING ROUTINE CHECKLIST

Another thing that I’ve learned about getting dressed, is that it is a billion times easier to throw together an outfit when you don’t have a million articles of clothing.

I literally have two pairs of jeans, guys!  Two!

A minimalist approach to your wardrobe will make getting dressed a million times easier and quicker!

7.  Make a plan for the day

If you didn’t know, I love to plan.

Planning makes me 100% more productive with my time each day and so, of course, I have to show my planner some love during my morning routine.

I plan out my weeks on Sunday’s – of course – but each morning I still like to look over what my day looks like.

This way, I know what things I need to work on with the blog, what personal things need to get done, and also if I have any appointments or special reminders!

So, make it a habit of looking over your planner during breakfast or planning out your days with a daily planner printable each morning.

That way, when you’re done with breakfast, you’ll be ready to start your super productive and positive day!

I try to stick to this most mornings, but hey, sometimes life gets in the way.

We can’t all be perfect…and anybody that tries to tell you that their morning routines are perfectly executed every single day are lying…or just don’t have kids, haha!

I’m guessing you could use a day off, eh?  I know that I do!

We all work super hard and we deserve – nay we need – to spend time nurturing our mental health.

Mental health is super important, so, to avoid burnout, give yourself a break every now and then to simply relax.  (Sunday’s are a greaaaat time for your self-care routine!)

Treat yourself to a

  • face mask,
  • an at home mani/pedi,
  • some time in the tub,
  • and pour yourself a glass of wine.

We all may not be able to take long luxurious vacations whenever we want, but we can treat ourselves to an at-home spa day of our dreams to show ourselves some self-care and self-love.

You’ll see, treating yourself to a day at the spa doesn’t have to be expensive…and you can stay in your comfy pj’s all day 😉

So, are you ready to try out some new DIY recipes – self-care routine edition?  Good, then get prepared to feel relaxed, less stressed, and oh so luxurious!

1.  Infused Water

What better way to kick off your self-care routine than with some refreshing and SUPER good for you infused water!?

Not only are infused waters nutritional and delicious, but they also have great detoxifying properties.

Here are a few of my favorite infused water recipes for my self-care routine days:

  • Strawberry Lime:  Slice some strawberries and lime and top with a sprig of mint!  Try with sparkling water for an even fancier experience.
  • For better digestion: Cucumber + Strawberry + Lime
  • For clear, glowing skin: Cucumber + Lemon + Mint
  • Citrus Twist: Lemon + Lime + Orange

Simply add to a glass of crushed ice and water and enjoy all day!

2.  DIY Face Masks

Fair warning, I have an obsession with face masks.

So much so, that there’s an entire drawer in my bathroom dedicated just to face masks.

I know this may seem excessive, but when I have a DIY self care routine day, I go big. (In the way of face masks, at least.)

So, today, we’re going to make a few different masks to get our ultimate glow (and relaxation) on.

diy self care products - how to make diy self care products - diy self care products sugar scrubs - diy self care products recipe - simple diy self care products

Follow these simple steps to prep your skin for your DIY masks:

  1. Remove makeup with an oil cleanser (this one is THE BEST)
  2. Wash your face with a facial cleanser (if you have acne, you NEED this).

Now, in order to get rid of all that built up dead skin – gross, I know – exfoliate your face with this DIY exfoliating mask:

DIY SELF CARE RECIPE #1:  OATMEAL & AGAVE NECTAR MASK

What you’ll need:

How you make it:

  1. Blend two parts oatmeal (the magic bullet works great for this)
  2. Mix together two parts oatmeal, one part agave nectar, one part jojoba oil (or your favorite carrier oil)
  3. Use a flat makeup brush to spread evenly on face and leave on for 10-30…or 60 minutes 😉
  4. Using warm water, gently massage mask into skin, then rinse off and pat face dry!

Yay for baby-bottom smooth skin!

Now, in order to make the most out of your next face mask– yes we’re doing more than one (it’s self-care day!) –  steam your face.

If you’ve never steamed your face before, where the heck have you been living!?

Under a rock, clearly!

To steam your face:

  1. Boil a pot of water
  2. Once boiling, place the pot on a towel on your table
  3. Drape a towel over your head and hold it near the pot of water to steam your face

After about 5-10 minutes, your pores should be nice and open and ready for your next face mask!

If that is toooo much work, get this highly-rated facial steamer (uhm, can you say “luxurious!?”)

After steaming my face, I apply a skin detoxifying mask now that my pores are open.

DIY SELF CARE RECIPE #2:  CLAY DETOX MASK

What you’ll need:

How you’ll make it –

  1. Mix together two parts clay, one part water or ACV, 1/4 part carrier oil  + few drops essential oils
  2. Use a flat makeup brush to spread evenly on face and let harden 10-20 minutes (this mask is intense, you might feel your face tingling – it’s normal and amazing)
  3. Remove mask with warm water and face cloth

Then, simply apply  your favorite moisturizer…or your next face mask 😉

After the detoxifying face mask has pulled all the grime out of my skin, I like to apply a renewing mask to add moisture and essential vitamins back to my skin.

(I have the driest skin on planet earth…*eyeroll emoji*)

DIY SELF CARE RECIPE #3:  AVOCADO + AGAVE NECTAR MASK

What you’ll need:

How you make it:

  1. Mash avocado, then mix together two parts avocado, one part manuka honey, few drops carrier oil, few drops essential oil(s) (lemon)
  2. Use a flat makeup brush to apply evenly to skin
  3. Let sit for 10-30 minutes, then rinse off with warm water

Pat skin dry and nooowww you can apply your favorite moisturizer (this is mine)!

3.  Dry Brushing

This isn’t necessarily a DIY, but it is a super fun and healthy addition to your ultimate pamper routine.

Just pretend this is the point in your spa-day that you’d be getting a massage 😉

Grab this dry brush for your body on Amazon for super cheap!  And check out the instructions here.

The benefits are great, too, especially before you soak in the tub with your DIY bath bomb.

4.  DIY Bath Bombs

Aren’t bath bombs awesome?

What better way to spice up your self-care routine while also fulfilling your kid-like self?

Plus, they’re made up of crazy good ingredients that’ll make your skin super smooth!

I mean, don’t get me wrong, I love a good Lush bath bomb.

But, did you know how easy it is to make your own bath bomb?  You can find some awesome DIY bath bomb recipes, here.

So, relax in the tub with your DIY bath bomb while one of your face masks does its thang!

(Don’t wanna DIY?  Get a whole bunch of bath bombs, here.)

5.  DIY Hair Masks

Masks just aren’t for your face, they’re for your hair, too!

While you’re soaking in the tub with your face mask on, letting all your stresses fly away, soak your hair in a luxurious combination of oils and nutrients!

Then, rinse it out and feel the silky goodness that is now your hair.

I like using a hair mask at least once a week to keep my hair strong and healthy!

DIY SELF CARE RECIPE #4:  CASTOR OIL HAIR MASK

My favorite DIY hair mask is so simple it only has one ingredient – castor oil.

Castor oil has sooo many benefits for your hair, including

  • detoxifies scalp + gets rid of dandruff
  • helps promote circulation + growth
  • prevents breakage + hair loss

Simply apply a generous amount of castor oil from roots to ends, tie up in a top knot, and let it do it’s magic while you enjoy your relaxing bath!

I hope you remembered to pour yourself a glass of wine before you hopped in 😉

5.  DIY Hair Masks

What would a relaxing bath be without some luxurious bath accessories?

Leave your skin feeling super smooth with this DIY sugar scrub!

*Sugar scrubs make super awesome gifts, too…combine with some of the other DIY spa day recipes and pass along the gift of relaxation!*

DIY SELF CARE RECIPE #5:  SUGAR SCRUB

What you’ll need:

How you make it: Mix together two parts sugar, two parts coconut oil (if you like your scrubs more coarse, use less oil), few drops of each essential oil

Hop in the tub and massage into your body to leave your skin feeling smoooooth!

Then, moisturize your skin post-bath with this DIY body butter!

7.  Mani + Pedi

It wouldn’t be a self care day in my books without scheduling in a mani/pedi!

So, grab your favorite nail polish and treat yourself to an at-home manicure and pedicure!

There’s no DIY product to make for this part of our self-care routine but, in regards to your nails, you are ‘doing it yourself.’ 😉

diy self care products - how to make diy self care products - diy self care products sugar scrubs - diy self care products recipe - simple diy self care products

Are you in the market for some new nail polish?

Then you have to check out Kathleen Lights’ new line of nail polishes!

She has the best colors and it lasts soooo long on my nails!  ‘Cause is there really anything worse than chipping nail polish?

If you’re feeling super fancy, take it a step further and use an at-home gel manicure kit to really prolong the lifespan of your nail polish!

8.  Detox Smoothie

Ah, so relaxed.  What a day!

I wish I could do my DIY self-care pamper routine every day of the week. *sigh*

Next, wind down from your day of relaxation with a detoxifying smoothie.

Detox smoothies have great benefits and it is always good to flush your body of unwanted toxins every now and again.

diy self care products - how to make diy self care products - diy self care products sugar scrubs - diy self care products recipe - simple diy self care products

I wouldn’t be able to make a smoothie for the life of me if it weren’t for my Magic Bullet.  It is so awesome being able to make delicious single serve smoothies in 5 minutes or less.

Find my go-to detox smoothie recipe, here!

Or, if it’s just one of those days, you’ll likely be indulging in a pint of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream instead while watching some How I Met Your Mother.

9.  Tend to your mental health

So, we just spent all day pampering ourselves and de-stressing our bodies with the ultimate DIY self care routine!

looooooooooove planning!  LOVE IT.

Since adding this productive Sunday routine to my life, I’ve found my stress levels have decreased and my days run smoothly.

I mean, you wouldn’t go out in a snowstorm without your coat and boots on, right?  So why do you go into a new week with no plan or preparation?

My productive Sunday routine consists of:

  1. Yoga
  2. Planner time
  3. Reviewing that my finances are in order
  4. Meal planning + prepping
  5. Planning out my OOTW
  6. Cleaning my home
  7. Investing in myself
  8. Pampering myself
  9. Following through with my night routine

Think of it this way:  on Monday, you’ll get to sleep in longer, eat better, and feel more relaxed.

That sounds pretty sweet if you ask me!

SUNDAY ROUTINE PRINTABLE

have a productive week every single week!

1.  Have a morning yoga session

A proper productive Sunday routine should always start with sleeping in…and then?

Definitely some yoga.

It is so important to find time for yourself throughout each day – something that is often put on the back burner when life becomes hectic and stressful.

That is why I make it a point to create a foundation for the rest of the week by finding time for yoga first thing Sunday morning.

Making that connection each Sunday helps me make yoga a priority throughout the remainder of my week.

I’ve been fitting yoga into my schedule as often as possible for the last few months now (after finding Yoga with Adriene on YouTube), and I truly don’t think I’ll ever stop finding time for it.

Yoga has an awesome way of centering oneself, which is why I love practicing in the morning – to start the day with a clear head and a clear image of what needs to be accomplished.

Incorporating some kind of exercise, yoga, or meditation into your Sunday morning routine will set a great foundation for the rest of the routines still to come in the day – and for the rest of the week.

And come on, who doesn’t wanna rock comfy yoga leggings all day long?

2.  Show your planner some love

I like to plan out my entire week in one sitting – during my productive Sunday routine.

Doing it all in one sitting gets all your planning out of the way for the rest of the week – and now all you have to do is review your planner each morning to see what you’ve scheduled in for that day.

So, break out your planner (my favorite is the Erin Condren LifePlanner) and let’s go over the upcoming week.

  • What goals do you want to accomplish?
  • What appointments do you have?
  • To-do lists?

Using this information, I can quickly plan out my week in my Erin Condren LifePlanner so I can easily conquer my to-do lists and see when I have some spare time to relax.

sunday routine - sunday routine for teens - sunday routine hoe tips - sunday routine productive - sunday routine self care - things to do sunday routine - sunday routine for moms

Your future self will be super thankful that all you need to do is glance at your planner to see what each day entails.

No surprises here!

3.  Make sure your finances are in order

New bills are usually due each week which is why it is important to spend time during your productive Sunday routine reviewing your finances.

  • What is your starting balance for the upcoming week?
  • What bills are due?
  • Is it a payday week?
  • Any surprise expenses coming up?
  • Did I stick to the budget last week?

These are all important things to consider when planning your budget for the upcoming week.

Instead of trying to cram my financial information into my daily planner, or risking losing the information on loose-leaf paper, I record all of my financial information and budget planning in my Budget Boss Financial Planner.

Consider your financial goals and plan accordingly for the upcoming week.

4.  Get your food in order for the upcoming week

Getting your food in order for the upcoming week entails three main things:

  1. cleaning out & organizing fridge
  2. meal planning & grocery shopping
  3. food prepping

 Here’s my routine:

CLEAN OUT + ORGANIZE FRIDGE:

Before you go grocery shopping for the week, you’re gonna wanna clean out your fridge to

a.) see what products you need, and

b.) to start fresh for the upcoming week.

So, take inventory (and make a grocery list of essential items that need replacing), get rid of any expired products, and wipe down the shelves.

If you’re feeling super inspired to organize your fridge even further, use these 17 handy tips from The Krazy Coupon Lady to organize your fridge like a boss.

MEAL PLAN + GO GROCERY SHOPPING:

Throughout the week, I do not have the time to cook.  But, I still want to eat healthily.

That’s why I  make it a habit to plan my meals for the week on Sunday so I don’t have to think about what I’m gonna cook for dinner for the rest of the week.

Don’t forget to also write down the types of healthy things you’d enjoy for breakfasts, lunches, and snacks.

Then, head to the grocery store feeling prepared with your list in hand and come home with all the delicious things that’ll make you feel full and stay healthy all week long.

FOOD PREP FOR THE WEEK:

Once I have planned out my meals for the week and grocery shopped accordingly, it’s time to food prep!

I prep for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, but only prepping for dinners would be just as great and way less time-consuming.

I like to be super prepared, so I go big.

Taking the extra time to food prep during my productive Sunday routine makes the rest of the week run so much more smoothly.

After a long day at work, who’s got the time to cook?

Just think of how many more home cooked meals you’d eat throughout the week if you took an hour on Sundays to prep those meals for easy cooking.

Food prepping is also a great way to make sure you’re eating healthy consistently because it takes away the temptation to order take-out or skip meals altogether.

Cheers to past self for making future self’s life so much simpler…and delicious!

5.  Plan your outfits for the week

Much like our meals, having our outfits planned out for the week will make our lives soooo much easier.

Imagine getting to sleep in for an extra 20 minutes because you know exactly what you’re going to wear.  No more running around looking for your only clean pair of dress pants in the dark every morning. 😉

So, use your Sundays to wash and fold your laundry.  Then, check the weather for the upcoming week and plan accordingly.

Invest in a clothing rack and only put your outfits of the week on it during your Sunday Routine.  You could even make (or buy if you aren’t the crafty type) Monday-Friday labeled hangers.  #organizedAF

In the morning, grab your pants, top, shoes, and accessories off their labeled hanger and have a stress free morning, every morning.

Hooray past self for having such awesome style.

Also, try taking this time to plan out your gym clothes for the week so you don’t have yet another excuse to avoid working out.

Below your hanging space on your clothing rack, place labeled bins for each day of the week where you can throw your gym clothes and shoes in and never miss a workout again!

6.  Quick clean your home

I don’t know about you, but with two kids, my home can become unorganized and messy in a matter of seconds.

There never fails to be dishes in the sink and toys all over the floor.

Sunday’s are a great time to do a quick, but thorough, clean up of each room in your home so you feel more organized and prepared for the upcoming week.

Go through each room and put things back in their designated spot – and if they don’t have a spot, make them a home with bins from the dollar store and labels.

If you don’t watch Do It On A Dime on YouTube, now is the time to start!  Kathryn has so many awesome tips on how to quickly organize every space in your home on a budget to avoid cluttered and unorganized spaces.

Then, once your space is decluttered and organized, wipe down the counters, walls, and windows, dust & vacuum.

After, ban your family entry to any room unless they sign a contract saying they won’t mess up your efforts 😉  JK.  But really.

Starting your week with a clean and organized space will make it that much easier to keep up with the cleaning throughout the week and also won’t distract you from all the other items on your to-do list.

7.  Invest in yourself!

It’s easy to let life get away from us, forgetting to make time to invest in oneself.

Just like your yoga practice this morning, make Sundays a day to lay the foundation for the rest of the week to invest in yourself.

Maybe you also have a blog – but you haven’t written a blog post in three months.  Or maybe you’ve been eying some DIY crafts on Pinterest but haven’t made time to make them.

From this point forward, make it a habit to make sure you’re making time for things that are important to you.

I mean, it may seem unfathomable how you’re going to fit yet another thing into your busy schedule, but even an hour a day could eventually allow you to start working for yourself — freeing up 8 hours a day that you used to spend at your day job.

I am a strong believer of investing in yourself – because who better to work for than for yourself?

The work you put in on Sundays and each day onward with continue to add to the positive outcome those efforts will have on your life.

Trust.

8.  Pamper yourself

Now, you just spent all day planning for the upcoming week.  It’s time to finally concentrate on you.

Go pour yourself a glass of wine (jk we’ve been sipping on that all day), slap on a face mask, and relax.

Once you have your productive Sunday routine down, it shouldn’t take more than a few hours and then after that?  You do you, girl.

You bust your butt all week long, you deserve at least one day a week to zone out and focus on yourself.

Recharging our body and mind is just as important as plugging in your cell phone before bed and we’d never forget to charge our phones, would we?!?! *gasp* NEVER.

We all need to recharge, you included!  And, you can’t be productive next week if you don’t find time to chiiilll before the new week begins.

So, invest some time in yourself each Sunday to really relax and destress.

I do this with some peace and quiet, wine, a bubble bath, some face masks, and a good book.  That way I can focus on some fictional characters’ issues instead of my own for a few hours 😉

We have a busy week ahead of us, right?  But a stressful one?  Nahhhh.

9.  Start your night routine

Ah, your Productive Sunday Routine is nearing its end and the ever so dreadful Monday morning is approaching.

But! You’re prepared AF so its ok 😉

End your Sunday night on the right foot and set the stage for the upcoming week by sticking to your night time routine.

If you practice your night time routine on Sundays, it will be that much easier to stick to it for the rest of the week.

After you’ve pampered the crap out of yourself, it is time to SHUT DOWN.

If you aren’t “shutting down” at leaassstt 30 minutes before bed from all electronics, you should start.

Use that time to review your planner, reflect on the day, read a book, stretch…the list goes on!

This way, you’ll have a great night sleep and also be able to sleep longer since your morning has been prepped for you already!

If you haven’t noticed, routines that make life simpler are my favs.

Running around throughout the week is tiring enough, never mind the added chaos of trying to cook, clean, and fit in some relaxation.

Get some freedom back in your life by adding these nine habits to your Productive Sunday Routine.  Your future self will love you for it
