These are the 7 bullet journal tips that will make you a pro:

  1. Using Templates Isn’t Considered Cheating
  2. You Don’t Need Fancy Supplies
  3. You Don’t Need To Be An Artist
  4. Getting Started Is The Hardest Part
  5. It’s Ok To Get Inspiration From Others
  6. You’re Going To Make Mistakes
  7. It’s All About Having Fun

Let’s dive in!

1.  Using Templates isn’t considered cheating

Here’s the deal:  Creating each bullet journal page from scratch is intimidating.

Not to mention time-consuming, tedious, and unnecessary.

Using bullet journal templates to create your bullet journal spreads is not considered cheating – it’s encouraged!

Printable bullet journal templates make bullet journaling insanely easier and will help you achieve the bullet journal of your dreams.

That’s why we’ve created 87 unique bullet journal templates for you that you can reuse month after month to create drool-worthy bullet journal spreads like this one:

2.  You Don’t Need Fancy Supplies

We’ve all been there: Four hours deep into bullet journal YouTube videos mesmerized by beautiful, intricate, and creative spreads.

And what’s the one thing they all have in common: bullet journal supplies!

But, here’s a secret the pros don’t want you to know:

You can create beautiful bullet journal spreads without spending a ton of money on notebooks, fancy pens, pencils, markers, highlighters, washi tape, stickers, and more.

Here are the best and most affordable bullet journal supplies you need to get started:

1.  Notebooks – The Paperage bullet journal notebooks found on Amazon are dotted, durable, and highly rated. Oh!  And hella affordable.

2.  Pens – My favorite affordable pens are Pilot G2 Premium Gel Roller Fine Tip Pens.  These pens come in a variety of different colors and glide like a dream.  You can get a 20 pack of assorted colored pens for only $24!

3.  Markers – Old school Crayola markers are my top pick for affordable bullet journal supplies.  The broad point and super tip versions are great for handwriting, doodling, and accenting your bullet journal designs.

Honestly, you could stop here on the bullet journal supply train, but if you’re feeling like investing more into your creative experience, these are nice to have, too:

4.  Highlighters – Look for pastel colors, like these.

5.  Washi TapeThis set includes 30 different washi tapes for only $13.99!

6.  Stickers – You can get almost 1,000 stickers for just $12!

As I said, you don’t need a ton of fancy supplies – a notebook, some pens, and markers will do just fine.  (And you probably already have them lying around your house!)

3.  You Don’t Need To Be An Artist

I used to think that you needed to be an artist to enjoy bullet journaling.

But, you don’t.

And, as with all things, the more you practice the better you’ll get.

So, don’t let your artistic doubt stop you from expressing yourself creatively!

You do not need to be an artist to start a bullet journal.

4.  getting started is the hardest part

It may seem like the hardest part about bullet journaling is creating Instagram-worthy layouts, but this isn’t the case.

The hardest part about bullet journaling is getting started!

You can come up with a million excuses why you shouldn’t start a bullet journal, but I’ll give you one why you should:

Because you know you wanna.

It doesn’t matter what your layouts, spreads, and doodles look like: just get started!

5.  it’s ok to get inspiration from others

I’d be lying if I said I came up with every single bullet journal spread on my own.

(I think everybody would be lying!)

Getting inspiration from others on Instagram, Pinterest, and YouTube is perfectly ok – and encouraged!

My favorite bullet journal YouTuber to get inspiration from is AmandaRachLee.  Check her out here!

6.  You’re Going To Make Mistakes

Having a mistake-free bullet journal would be an insanely high expectation to hold yourself to.

Because, here’s the deal:

Even the best of the best bullet journalers make mistakes!

And, even more:  Bullet journal mistakes are super easy to correct!

Let’s say you create a habit tracker header for your mood tracking page.  Oops!  Or maybe you have a bullet journal template that you want to change up.

Do 1 of these 3 things:

  1. Cover up your mistake with a cut-to-size piece of paper and re-write your header/layout
  2. Use whiteout
  3. Place washi tape over your mistake and continue on

For example:

Don’t get discouraged if you’re making mistakes as you begin bullet journaling!

Practice makes perfect and, as you know now, bullet journal mistakes are super easy to fix.

7.  it’s all about having fun

At the end of the day, bullet journaling is all about having fun.

It may not seem like reality, but bullet journaling is not about having the most Instagram-worthy layout.

Bullet journaling is all about expressing yourself creatively, planning productive days, and tracking your success.

As long as you enjoy the process of bullet journaling and create spreads that you love, you are a pro bullet journaler!

There ya go!

Those are my seven best bullet journal tips for beginners.

Bullet journaling can seem intimidating.

I mean, you’re basically creating a monthly planner from absolute scratch.

And, if you aren’t artistically inclined, it can seem like bullet journaling isn’t for you.

(Here’s why that isn’t true.)

Starting a bullet journal is super simple.  Just follow these step-by-step instructions:

  1. Choose your journal/notebook or templates
  2. Purchase additional bullet journal supplies
  3. Subscribe to bullet journal YouTubers for inspiration
  4. Get started with the basics
  5. Make adjustments next month

Let’s dive in!

1.  Choose your journal/notebook or templates

The obvious first step in starting a bullet journal is to get a journal/notebook.

Depending on the sizing preference and other needs, these are my recommendations for affordable and high-quality bullet journal notebooks:

  1. Paperage Dotted Notebook 5.7 x 8 inches – $8.54
  2. Minimalism Art A5 Dotted Grid Notebook – $8.95
  3. Beechmore Books Vegan Leather A5 Notebook – $16.95
  4. Leuchtturm1917 A5 Hardcover Notebook With Numbered Pages – $19.95

Another great option to get started with bullet journaling is to use printable templates.

This way, you don’t have to create every spread by hand and can jump right into planning, doodling, and having fun with your bullet journal.

We’ve created 87 unique bullet journal templates that you can download right here.

2.  Recommended bullet journal supplies

In addition to a bullet journal notebook or bullet journal templates, you’ll be needing some other supplies.

These supplies include things like pens, highlighters, markers, a ruler, washi tape, stickers, and more.

Let’s go over each individually:

Pens:

While bullet journaling, you’ll want to use a variety of different pen colors.

Here are the best bullet journaling pens to add to your collection:

  1. Pilot G2 Premium Gel Roller Fine Tip Pens (20 Pack Assorted Colors) – These pens come in a variety of different colors and glide like a dream.
  2. Vanstek Erasable Gel Pens (15 Assorted Colors) – Just in case you make a mistake, erasable pens are great to have on hand for bullet journaling!
  3. Tombow Dual Brush Pens (10 Assorted Colors) – Brush pens are a MUST have for any type of hand lettering you’ll want to include in your bullet journal.

You’ll also want to have a few quality pencils on hand for sketching out your layouts, doodles, and designs.

Next up, highlighters!

Highlighters:

Highlighters are often used while bullet journaling to accent headers, create drop shadows, and indicate important tasks.

You’ll want to use pastel colors that aren’t overbearing and are easy to write over.

Here are the best highlighters to use while bullet journaling:

  1. Zebra Mildliner Double Ended Highlighters (Broad & Fine Tip) – These highlighters are all the rage in the bullet journal community and come in a range of beautiful pastel colors.  You can get an affordable set of 15 colors on Amazon!
  2. Javapen Rainbow Pastel Chisel Tip Highlighters – Another great highlighter option for bullet journaling.

Let’s dive into my favorite bullet journal supply – markers!

Markers:

I love using markers while bullet journaling for handwriting, doodling, and accenting my spreads.

These are my favorite markers to use while bullet journaling:

  1. Crayola Broad Line Markers – Great for hand lettering for beginners!
  2. Crayola Fine Tip Markers – Use these for drop shadows, accents, and finer details.

Now for the washi tape addicts!

Washi Tape:

Washi tape is used to accent your bullet journal, cover up mistakes, and simply add decor to your spreads.

You can find different washi tape’s in tons of places, but Amazon is my favorite place to find affordable washi tape.

Check out this super cute collection of washi tape’s on Amazon!

Stickers:

Alike washi tape, stickers aren’t necessary for your bullet journaling experience, but they do add a fun flair to your spreads.

You can find adorable stickers for your bullet journal on Redbubble, Amazon, and Etsy!

(I apologize in advance for the amount of time you’ll spend drooling over stickers, LOL!)

As I mentioned, you’ll also want a ruler for your bullet journaling.

Once you’ve gathered all your bullet journal supplies, I highly recommend turning to YouTube for inspiration, which leads us to step three of how to start a bullet journal!

3.  Get some bullet journal inspiration

Staring at an empty notebook wondering what to do next is intimidating.

I get it.

That’s why I turn to YouTube to get inspiration for my bullet journal spreads.

These are my favorite bullet journal YouTubers that you HAVE to subscribe to….like right now.

Fair warning:  You will spend hours…and hours…watching YouTube videos of bullet journaling.

These channels are awesome because they create a new bullet journal set up video each month that you can follow along with and gain inspiration from!

4.  Set up your bullet journal

So, you’ve gathered your bullet journal supplies, got some inspiration, and now you’re ready to start your very own bullet journal.

These are the basic pages you should include at the beginning of every bullet journal, before your monthly spreads:

Title Page:

Your title page should indicate what year it is and can be designed to your liking; simple or full of doodles!

Key:

Your key is where you can list the symbols that will be used throughout your bullet journal and their accompanying meaning.

For instance, a bullet signifies a new task and a checkmark signifies a completed task.

Index:

The index of your bullet journal is where you’ll list out the pages of your bullet journal and what is on those pages.

This is very helpful when you need to locate a certain page quickly.

I recommend making your index span multiple pages so you have enough room to list each of the pages of your bullet journal.

Year At A Glance:

This page is an overview of each calendar month.

You can use this page to highlight important dates, events, birthdays, and more.

Month At A Glance:

Your month at a glance page(s), also known as your future log, is where you can make detailed notes about events, appointments, birthdays, etc., throughout each month.

Additional Pages You May Like To Include:

Along with the above-listed pages to start your bullet journal with, you might also like to include these pages:

  • Yearly Goals
  • Places I’ve Traveled To
  • Places I Want To Go
  • Books I’ve Read
  • Books To Read
  • Music I’m Loving
  • Movies To Watch
  • TV Shows To Watch
  • Birthday Tracker

These pages are super fun to create and add a lot of character and personalization to your bullet journal.

All of these pages can be found in our Printable Bullet Journal Template Bundle, too!

After you’ve set up your bullet journal with these pages, you’re ready to dive into your monthly spreads.

Monthly Bullet Journal Spreads:

Each month, you’re going to create a new monthly spread to plan out your weeks and days.

This is where you can get super creative and use different themes each month.  For instance, for October you might choose a Halloween theme for your monthly spread.

These are the pages I recommend you include in each of your monthly bullet journal spreads:

  • Monthly Calendar
  • Habit Tracker
  • Mood Tracker
  • Sleep Log
  • Weekly Layout
  • Daily Spread (optional)
  • Gratitude Log
  • Memory Log

All of these pages can be found in our Printable Bullet Journal Template Bundle and can be customized to your theme!

Phew!

I know that was a lot of information about how to set up your bullet journal, but it is far easier than it sounds.

And therapeutic if I do say so myself.

Now there’s only one thing left to do:

5.  Make adjustments next month

Each month, take a peek at last month’s bullet journal spread to see what worked and what didn’t.

Then, make adjustments as you create your next month’s monthly spread.

This is the best part about bullet journaling:

Having the ability to customize your planner to your exact likes and needs!

There you have it!

The step-by-step guide to starting your first bullet journal.

And, don’t forget, our Printable Bullet Journal Templates Bundle is on sale for a limited time only RIGHT NOW.

Here’s the sad truth:

Most of us are living unfulfilling lives.

Now, by no means am I trying to offend you.  I am merely pointing out something that I know you already know to be true.

For instance, does any of this sound familiar:

What is intentional living and why should you start? Well, for starters, living with intention provides for an incredibly fulfilling and happy life. To get started, use these 5 intentional living ideas to inspire you to live with more intention. These intentional living ideas will help you discover your purpose and how to actively live in accordance to that purpose. If you've ever thought, "what's the point of all this?", these intentional living ideas are perfect for you. #intentionalliving

  • waking up in the morning dreading the day that is about to unfold
  • not having enough time for you
  • tolerating relationships with people that, well, aren’t great
  • wasting time with menial things like social media
  • you’re stressed out, like, all the time

If you’re shaking your head like, “yep that’s me,” you’ve come to the right place.

Because, here’s the bottom line:

Being happy and feeling fulfilled should be your number one priority.

I know, I know.  Easier said than done.  But, that’s where these intentional living ideas come in.

Here’s five inspirational intentional living ideas that lead to a more fulfilling (and happy!) life:

Start your intentional life!

Join our VIP list to download “3 Essential Questions To Answer To Start Your Intentional Life” Worksheet.

Intentional Living Ideas:

1. Have A Vision For Your Life

Riddle me this:

How can you live a fulfilling, purposeful, and happy life if you don’t know what it is you want from life?

The truth?  You can’t

See, creating a vision for your life should be your first priority as you start your intentional living journey.

Why?  Because you’ll have a concept to form action around.

For example:

Your vision for your life could be as simple as being happy.

productivity planner - planner productivity - productivity tips - productivity planner organize your life - productivity planner time management - productivity planner goal setting

Now, once you acknowledge this vision, you can live with intention every day to only make time for things that make you happy.

It sounds crazy, though, right?

I mean, we all want to be happy.  So, one should be able to assume that we all live with the intent to be happy every single day.

But, here’s the kicker:

I know that all of us have done something today, yesterday, or last week that did not fulfill our underlying desire to be happy.

Take me for instance:

Today I did not make time for yoga – something that I love and that makes me happy.  And, not doing yoga today gave me anxiety, because I didn’t make time for yoga.  And, well, anxiety doesn’t make me happy.

But, when we consciously acknowledge the vision we have for our lives, we can act with intention each day to fulfill this vision.

So, take action:

Grab your planner and write down the vision you have for your life.  Then, take action each day to fulfill your vision. (But more on that in a minute.)

Remember:  This does not mean “where do you see yourself in 5 years.”  Think broader.  What do you want more and less of in your life?  How do you want to feel, regardless of your success or status?  What do you want to experience?

Recommended:  In need of a planner?  The Erin Condren LifePlanner makes a great assistant to your intentional life.  Helping you create goals and crush them, the LifePlanner is the perfect way to make your vision a reality.  Learn more here.

2. Plan Your Time

How do you make sure you’re fulfilling the vision you have for your life every single day?

(Ok, most days.  Nobody’s perfect!)

Here’s how:

You plan your time.

Seriously, there is no better way to stay accountable for your time and your actions than to write down a plan.

Each week or day, remind yourself of your life’s vision.  Then, plan your time according to that vision.

For example:

You’re reminded that your vision is to simply be happy.

So, you encourage yourself to do more things that make you happy, such as meditating, doing yoga, and making time for valued friends by scheduling time for them in your planner.

My favorite scheduling tool is the hourly daily planning page in my beloved Erin Condren LifePlanner.

It may seem crazy at first to schedule out your entire day with start and end times for tasks and activities, but I highly recommend giving it a try.

When you plan your days like this, you are accountable for your time and consistently reminded of what things are important to you and your vision.

The bottom line?

You are always, always more likely to do something if you write it down.

You must take full responsibility for the outcome of your life if you want to fulfill your vision.  So, write it down and do it!

Recommended:  Need help managing your time?  I highly recommend grabbing the Ultimate Productivity Bundle for 46 resources on productivity, goal setting, planning, and more.

3. Get Rid Of Distractions

We live in a pretty stimulating world.  Wouldn’t you agree?

With access to social media, Google, books, podcasts, and more right at our fingertips, it can be harder than ever to be intentional with our time.

Because let’s face it:

Who’s making time for real life when you have umpteen seasons of a million shows to watch on Netflix?

productivity planner - planner productivity - productivity tips - productivity planner organize your life - productivity planner time management - productivity planner goal setting

If you want to be intentional with your time, though, and fulfill your vision, you must get rid of unnecessary distractions.

(Or at least decrease them.  Baby steps.)

My advice?

Start small and build up to a life free of distraction.  For instance, delete your least used social media app.

Or, even better:

Delete the social media app that brings you the least joy.

For me, this was Instagram.  I found no enjoyment scrolling through pictures of people’s supposedly perfect lives and often left my Instagram binge sessions feeling like absolute garbage about myself.

Deleting social media and ridding yourself of other distractions, does two things for your intentional life:

  1. It frees up massive amounts of time to do valuable things (like engage with people in person) that align with your vision
  2. It instantly removes your need to validate your self-worth through unmeaningful things like likes and comments and instead opens the door to begin validating your self-worth based on how you feel, how you treat others, how you spend your time, and so on.

At this point, you might be thinking:

“Man, living with intention sounds hard.”

And, here’s the cold hard truth;  it will be hard sometimes.

You see, it isn’t easy to remove something (like social media) from your life after years of use.  It isn’t easy to skip naptime in lieu of doing something productive.  And it isn’t easy to distance yourself from friendships that are no longer fulfilling (but more on that in a moment.)

The point is:

Doing what is hard in order to improve your life is ten times easier than continuing to live a life of void of fulfillment, purpose, and happiness.

So, I challenge you to do what is hard and delete Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat or Instagram.  I can tell you from experience; you’re better off without it.

4.  Place More Value On Your Relationships

Let’s go back to the idea that you want to fulfill your vision to be happy every day.

Now, let me ask you this:

How many people have you made time for this week, this month, or this year that did not fulfill your intention to be happy?

Too many?

Just like being intentional means you make time for things that fulfill you, it also means that you do not make time for things [or people] that do not fulfill you.

Yes, even if you and Sally have been friends since kindergarten.

It’s a hard truth to accept, but true nonetheless.

You should not be exerting energy and time on people, places, or things that do not fulfill your vision.

productivity planner - planner productivity - productivity tips - productivity planner organize your life - productivity planner time management - productivity planner goal setting

When you allow your time to be absorbed by meaningless relationships, you hinder time that could be spent on meaningful relationships (or activities).

The bottom line:

Place more value on your relationships.  Especially on your relationship with yourself.

You deserve to live a life of fulfillment.  And only you are allowed to determine who and what absorbs your energy and time.

But, how do you know which relationships are or aren’t fulfilling your vision?

Here are some questions to help:

  1. After leaving your interactions how do you feel?  (i.e., happy, sad, jealous, intimidated, inspired)
  2. Do you go above and beyond to make time for this person or do you often make excuses for why you don’t have time to see this person?
  3. How do you feel right before you’re about to see this person? (i.e., anxious, excited, annoyed, complacent)

Once you’ve answered these questions, it should be very obvious to you which people align with your vision and who you should and shouldn’t exert time and energy on.

(Remember, ain’t nobody got time for somebody who makes you feel jealous, worthless, anxious, etc., regardless of how long you’ve known this person.  Do the hard thing!)

5. “Don’t Sweat The Small Stuff”

One of my favorite books of all time is called “Don’t Sweat The Small Stuff.”

It is an amazing book and a badass mindset to adopt if you want to live more intentionally.

As you can probably guess, “Don’t Sweat The Small Stuff” is about learning how to better choose what things deserve your energy.

Much like my previous tip, it is important that we value our energy and mental well-being above anything else.

Because, here’s the deal:

When we let small things, like a rude Instagram comment, negatively affect our mood, we are wasting energy on something that does not matter.

And, when we allow ourselves to exert energy on things that don’t matter, we decrease the energy we have to put towards meaningful things.

I’m sure you can relate to this:

You’re driving to work and some asshole cuts you off.  You have to slam on your breaks, you’re yelling profanities, and now you’re late to work!  Freakin’ idiot.

You get to work, still annoyed, and tell all your coworkers about this fool who cut you off on your drive in.  You spend the rest of the day replaying the event in your head while making up absurd scenarios of ‘what could have happened.’ (Ok, maybe this part is just a me thing.)

At the end of the day, you get in your car and think, “I hope I don’t get cut off again on my way home!”

Finally, you get home and tell your significant other about the crazy thing that happened on your way to work this morning.

Wow.  Ok.  When you see it written out like that, it’s easy to see how much energy and time we sometimes waste on things that don’t actually matter.

How much energy would have been lost if you simply shrugged it off and went about your day as normal?

You got it:  None.

It is easier said than done.  I know.

I’ll be the first to admit that my blood pressure skyrockets the moment my toddler spills her freshly poured orange juice.

But, if you take a second to remind yourself to not sweat the small stuff, you’ll likely realize that a small orange juice spill isn’t something to waste your energy on.  Simply clean it up, and move on with your day.

When we don’t waste our energy on things that don’t matter, we open up opportunities to learn and to spend our time doing things that do matter.

If you want more of this goodness, check out “Don’t Sweat The Small Stuff” on Amazon.  It is only $11 and such a fantastic read.

Did you skip to the bottom?  That’s ok, I’ve got your back.

To review, if you want to create a life that you love and that fulfills you, consider these five tips:

1.  Have A Vision For Your Life – Consider what things you want more and less of in your life and how you want to feel daily to unearth the vision you have for your life, such as being happy.  Because, when you have a vision for your life, you have a concent to form action around.

2.  Plan Your Time – When you schedule your time in a planner, like the Erin Condren LifePlanner, you create a system of accountability; accountability for your time and your actions.  When you have a plan written out for your day, you are more likely to spend your time doing things that align with your vision rather than wasting time watching Netflix.

3.  Get Rid Of Distractions – Between social media and Netflix, it is harder than ever to be intentional with our time.  But, when we remove distractions from our life, we free up time for meaningful thoughts, activities, and relationships.  Do the hard thing and delete the social media app that brings you the least amount of joy.  Baby steps!

4.  Place More Value On Your Relationships – Being intentional with your time means that you make an effort to make time for the things that fulfill your vision.  But, it also means that you do not make time for things (or people) that do not fulfill you.  Ask yourself the four questions from section four of this post and truly evaluate if every person you exert energy on actually deserve your energy.

5.  “Don’t Sweat The Small Stuff” – My favorite book is called “Don’t Sweat The Small Stuff” and I truly think every person on Earth should read it.  Learning how to not waste your energy and time on things that don’t matter is an invaluable lesson that everybody can benefit from.  Because, when you don’t waste your energy and time being annoyed by somebody who cut you off in traffic, you’re really opening up new opportunities to spend your energy and time on things that do matter.

The bottom line?

Being happy and feeling fulfilled should be of high importance on your list of to-dos.

And, luckily, these five inspirational intentional living ideas are an excellent place to start.

The idea of living intentionally is something I know you’ve seen on social media.

But, what does it mean to live intentionally?

I mean, aren’t we all living intentionally by simply living?

Well, not exactly.

Wanna change your life? Learn what it means to live intentionally and how it can change your life. Living intentionally will align your values, beliefs, and goals and will improve your life. #intentionalliving #howtoliveintentionally #liveintentionally #simpleintentionalliving #livewithintent

Some of the links in this post are “affiliate links.” This means if you click on the link and purchase the item, I will receive an affiliate commission.

What Is Intentional Living?

To live intentionally means that you lead a conscious lifestyle that aligns with your values, beliefs, and goals.

In other words, you have a vision for your life and are living according to that vision.

You have goals, beliefs, and values that all align perfectly with the actions of your day-to-day life.

live intentionally - live intentionally ideas - live intentionally life - live intentionally simple - live intentionally with kids

Instead of simply going through the motions, you spend your days doing things that align with your morals, values, and beliefs and push you forward towards your goals.

These could be choices about:

  • what to eat
  • how to dress
  • who you spend time with
  • when & how you exercise
  • what you spend your money on

When you live intentionally, your actions consistently align with your values, you understand why you are doing something, and you know how your actions will positively impact your life.

It is a liberating feeling to live with intention instead of simply being.

We only have one chance at this life on earth and to live with intention means that you consciously do your best to acknowledge that concept every single day.

Why Should You Start Living Intentionally

You should start living intentionally because you value yourself, your worth, and your time on this planet.

More simply, you should start living intentionally to change the things about your life that you are unhappy with.

For example, do you complain about this or that but find that nothing ever changes?  This is because you aren’t living your life on purpose.

Do you want to be

  • healthier?
  • more patient?
  • financially free?
  • more worldly?

You need to take action and spend your time intentionally every day to change things and make a positive impact on your life.

live intentionally - live intentionally ideas - live intentionally life - live intentionally simple - live intentionally with kids

Living with intention opens your eyes to the true value of life is – which is to live instead of to be.  You’ll see that living is more than scrolling through social media and it is more than the possessions you own.

And, living life on purpose gives you fulfillment and peace of mind knowing that you actively work towards your best life.

How To Start Living Intentionally To Improve Your Life

The good news is, anybody can start to live more intentionally and it doesn’t have to be hard or financially burdening.

To start living intentionally to improve your life, consider these three things:

  1. What are your overall values, morals, and beliefs?
  2. What is important to you?
  3. What are your goals?

Essentially, you’re going to figure out what you want to change about your life and how to do so while staying true to your values, goals, and beliefs.

Then, you can create a plan to live intentionally every single day.

For example, let’s say that you want to be healthier.

live intentionally - live intentionally ideas - live intentionally life - live intentionally simple - live intentionally with kids

So, you begin paying more attention to the food on your plate and start experimenting with different diets.  Ultimately you discover that eating a plant-based diet is best for you because it positively impacts your health and aligns with your values of compassion.

Now, every day you make a conscious decision to fill your plate with plants and grains to lead a healthier, more compassionate, super intentional lifestyle.

Remember, intentional living is all about aligning your values, beliefs, and goals with purposeful action!

Do you find yourself always buying a planner, telling yourself that you’re going to finally get organized and on track?

Then, you get home, excitedly break out your new planner and fancy pens and begin scribbling away, planning how you’re going to be a whole new you.

Buuutttt….

Do you buy planners with the intention to get organized and become productive? But can't seem to get the hang of using a planner? Use these planner tips to help you use your planner effectively to become more organized and productive. These planner tips and tricks will show you how to use common sections of planner and what to do with those blank pages! You'll also find daily planner tips and weekly planner tips. Don't forget your free printables at the end of the planner tips! #plannertips

Some of the links in this post are “affiliate links.” This means if you click on the link and purchase the item, I will receive an affiliate commission.

Then a week goes by and you don’t even know where your new planner went.

Ya, I’m totally guilty of this, too!

It gets better though:

When I finally found the planner of my dreams and learned how to use it effectively, I become 1000% more organized and productive.

I know what you’re thinking:

“How does she not know how to use a planner?!”

Well, of course, I’m capable of writing down goals, appointments, to-do lists, etc.

What I didn’t know was how to record this information in the most efficient way possible in order to increase organization and productivity.

Because the bottom line is:

It’s fine and dandy to scribble down “publish five blog posts this week” in the notes section of your planner.

But what are the action-packed steps you’re going to take to actually accomplish that goal?

That’s where these 5 planner productivity tips come in:

  1. Invest in a planner you love
  2. Make time for your planner
  3. Use your calendar for big picture stuff
  4. Use your weekly/daily spreads for action-packed to-do’s
  5. Use all that blank space for….

Let’s dive in!

Planner Productivity Tip #1:  Invest In A Planner You Love

I strongly believe that you won’t be able to effectively use a planner until you find a planner that you actually enjoy using.

I’m not talking about a planner that’s cute and visually appealing (although, also important).

I’m talking about a planner that has all the bells and whistles!

productivity planner - planner productivity - productivity tips - productivity planner organize your life - productivity planner time management - productivity planner goal setting

Because the truth is:

If you don’t have a planner that you love, it is hard to use it effectively.

You might be wondering what planners I recommend.

You’re in luck!  I’ve got two killer planners for you to explore!

The Erin Condren Life Planner is easy to use and comes with everything you could ever want from a planner.

The LifePlanner includes:

  • Vertical, horizontal, or hourly daily planning pages
  • Goal Setting Worksheets
  • Inspirational Quotes
  • Two-Page Monthly Overviews
  • Monthly Notes
  • Two-Page 2020 Future Planning Page
  • Folder
  • Stickers

I really appreciate the easy layout of this planner and die over the cute design.

It’s true:

This planner helps me plan out and accomplish my goals every single day.

I would be lost without my LifePlanner!

The Life Boss Planner is an un-dated life planner that will help you stay productive, plan your days, and track your success.

Included are 38+ planner printables that you can use year after year.

Some of the planning printables included are:

  • monthly calendar
  • weekly planner
  • daily planner
  • time-blocking schedules
  • meal planner
  • habit tracker

and more!

Planner Productivity Tip #2:  Make Time For Your Planner

You can’t plan for things if you don’t have a time dedicated to planning, right?!

Whether it is once a month, week, or day, find the time to sit down with your planner and fill in your goals and action steps for the month/week/day.

This way, you’ll have to simply glance at your planner each morning to know your schedule for work, appointments, to-do’s, and more.

I like to cozy up with my planner once a week, usually on Sunday’s, to plan out my upcoming week.

I am far more efficient at getting something done if it is scheduled at a specific time during the day.

PRO TIP:  Try a planner with time-slots to increase accountability + productivity.

Planner Productivity Tip #3:  How To Utilize Your Monthly Calendar

Use your monthly calendar for big picture stuff only!

Ugh, I used to squeeze soooo much information into the monthly spreads in my planner.

I mean, it was mainly because I used to buy planners that only had monthly spreads, hah!

But, also because I didn’t know any planner productivity hacks.

productivity planner - planner productivity - productivity tips - productivity planner organize your life - productivity planner time management - productivity planner goal setting

Use your monthly spread for big picture things like:

  • big-picture monthly goals
  • bill due dates
  • appointment times

This makes it easier to get an overall feel for what your month looks like at a glance, but doensn’t overwhelm you with tons of information.

Do you have a planner but still lack productivity? I felt the same way until I started using my planner according to these 5 simple tips. These simply tips increased my planner productivity by a ton! If you want to increase productivity with your planner, then you can't miss these tips. To be the most productive you can be, you need these 5 planner productivity tips! Time management is easy with these planner productivity hacks. Don't forget your printable planners! #plannerproductivity

Planner Productivity Tip #4:  How To Utilize Your Weekly + Daily Planner Pages

Your weekly and/or daily spread is where you can really get down to business with your goals and tasks.

This where you should plan out your action steps to achieve the goals you wrote down on your monthly calendar.

I tend to focus on three goals each month,

  • one personal,
  • one health-related,
  • and one career-related.

Then, in your weekly and/or daily spread, write down the action-steps you’re going to take to accomplish your goals.

productivity planner - planner productivity - productivity tips - productivity planner organize your life - productivity planner time management - productivity planner goal setting

Now, you can wake up each morning, glance at your planner while eating breakfast and clearly see an outline of what needs to happen that day.

For example, if one of my big picture goals was to write five blog posts this month, my daily spread would include action-steps such as, “draft first post, edit post, create graphics for post.

Doing this has really, really, really helped with my productivity!

Planner Productivity Tip #5:  How To Utilize All That Blank Space

Is it just me, or do most planners have more notes pages than you know what to do with each month?

I never utilized these pages, until, a little light-bulb went off.

Now, I use these blank pages for:

  • important dates
  • memories
  • milestones
  • goals
  • random lists
  • quotes
  • gratitude

I love jotting down cute things my kids say, saving the dates of all their milestones, and adding small pictures to relive the moments. (Yes, I am that person who saves all of my planners, lol!)

The notes sections are also great for recording your thoughts and reflections.

Utilizing the blank space in my planner this way has made it so much more personal, and is a great, all-encompassing planner + journal.

**Bonus:  Take your productivity to the next level!

Do you often find yourself wishing for more time to get things done?  Juggling your work, your life, and your family is hard.  And, staying productive while balancing all of this is a daunting task that often leaves us overwhelmed and anxious.

It’s cool.  Most of us do. 😛

Let me recap for you:

1.  Find A Planner You Love – You cannot use your planner successfully if you hate it.  So, take the time and invest in a planner you enjoy using.  I equally recommend the Erin Condren LifePlanner and The Planna Planner to anybody looking to discover their dream planner (or planners!)

2.  Make Time For Your Planner – Once you have the planner of your dreams in your hands, schedule out planner time to increase your organization and productivity.  Try writing in your planner each night before bed or plan your whole week on Sundays!

3.  How To Utilize Your Monthly Calendar – Only use your monthly calendar for big picture stuff.  Stuff like: big-picture monthly goals, bill due dates, appointment times, etc.

4.  How To Utilize Your Weekly and/or Daily Planner Pages – Use your weekly and daily planner pages to write out your action steps to achieve your goals.

5.  How To Utilize All That Blank Space – Is it just me, or do most planners have more notes pages than you know what to do with?  Use these pages for important dates, memories, milestones, goals, random lists, quotes, gratitude, etc.

I was lacking a night routine in my life till as of recent and I seriously don’t know how I was living without one for 25 years.

Since incorporating a night routine into my life a few months back I’ve been experiencing some noticeable differences, including that;

  • I’ve never had this much energy (well, maybe before the two kids, ha)
  • I fall asleep faster & sleep better
  • I have more productive mornings

Overall, I am a happier person now that I’ve committed to a night routine.

If you often feel stressed and/or find it hard to fall asleep and stay asleep, a night routine is your answer.

So, steal my 2019 night routine to increase positivity and productivity in your life!

night routine - night routine for teens - beauty night routine - college night routine - night routine women - night routine skincare - night routine checklist - night routine school

Some of the links in this post are “affiliate links.” This means if you click on the link and purchase the item, I will receive an affiliate commission.

The perfect night routine includes these 7 things:

  1. Shutting down
  2. Preparing for tomorrow
  3. Tidying up
  4. Stretching/meditating
  5. Tending to your mental health
  6. Skin care
  7. Going to bed at a reasonable time

A night routine is worth every minute because it will prepare your mind and body for a deep sleep which will, in turn, increase your happiness and productivity in the morning.

1.  Shut down from all electronics

SHUT IT DOWN! (Hey, any New Girl fans out there??)

It is no secret that being on your smart-phone or tablet, or watching TV until you go to sleep is super bad for you.  (Check out why Reading On A Screen Before Bed [Could] Be Killing you, here.)

Now, do I have your attention?

See, the experts say you should be shutting down from all electronic devices up to two hours before your bedtime – but hey, even thirty minutes is a good start in my books.

I try my best to quit all electronics two hours before bedtime at 11 pm which gives me the perfect amount of time for my night routine checklist.

To stay committed to being off your phone until the next morning, set up a charging station (outside of your bedroom) where you can safely leave your phone until tomorrow.

(Eeeeek!  Yes, this means that you need a real alarm clock.)

Pro Tip:  Start by shutting down from electronics thirty minutes before bed during your first week and then gradually increase to two hours.

2.  Prepare for tomorrow

I have found it to be immensely helpful to prepare for tomorrow, the night before.

And, I get to sleep in longer, so there’s that!

I use my night routine to prepare for tomorrow in two ways:

1.  Prepping my meals for tomorrow

2.  Picking my outfit out for the morning + workout clothes for gym time

After you’ve shut down from all electronics, prepare your breakfast and lunch for the following day.

Then, pick out your outfit for the morning (whose got time for trying to look cute at 5am?) and lay out your workout clothes for when you get home (no excuses!).

Another great way to prepare for tomorrow is to spend time with your planner so you know what important things need to be crossed off your to-do list.

If you’re in the market for a new planner, Erin Condren’s Life Planner has been my planner baby for as long as I can remember!

3.  Tidy up!

Who likes waking up to a disorganized space?  Not me!

Waking up to a full sink of dishes means there’s no way I’ll be able to concentrate on working or whatever else needs to be done.

So, I take the extra time during my night routine checklist to quickly tidy up.

(I tidy up in less than 30 minutes by following these 5 cleaning hacks.)

Having a tidy house before bed ensures that you won’t be searching for your shoes or your keys the next morning!

Looking to improve your life? A night routine is the perfect way to increase your happiness and your productivity! This is a perfect night routine for for teens, for college, for students, for women, and for kids. Use this night routine checklist for a relaxing night every night. You'll have the best sleep of your life with this night routine. Click to steal the night routine that has dramatically improved my life. #nightroutine

4.  Stretch or do yoga

An amazing thing that you can do for your body and your mind is to include some form of stretching or yoga to your night routine.

Doing yoga or simply stretching help to relax + destress from the day.

night routine - night routine for teens - beauty night routine - college night routine - night routine women - night routine skincare - night routine checklist - night routine school

Stretching/yoga is also proven to:

  • increase flexibility
  • improve posture
  • prevent injuries
  • increase nutrient absorption
  • decrease soreness
  • calm your mind

Pro Tip:  Find guided yoga videos on YouTube.  Yoga With Adriene is my favorite!

Seriously, if you only take one thing away from my night routine, let it be this!

5.  Tend to your mental health

Life can get exhausting, especially in this technology-crazed generation that we live in.

So, it’s important to wind down and tend to your mental health at the end of each day.

There are tons of ways to tend to your mental health, but my favorite are:

All of these options are great ways to cleanse your mind of unwanted thoughts and wind your brain down in preparation for a good nights sleep.

6.  Your skin care routine

It wouldn’t be a night routine checklist if you didn’t tend to your skin care routine!

Getting into the habit of loving your skin each night will totally benefit you in the future to keep acne and wrinkles at bay.

I stick to a super simple, cruelty-free skin care routine:

Step 1: Cleanse with Dr. Bronner’s Castile Soap

Step 2:  Calm with Mario Badescu Facial Spray With Aloe, Herbs, And Rosewater

Step 3: Moisturize with Rosehip Oil

Like I said, I keep it quick and simple…cuz I’ve got sleeping to do!

Do whatever works best for your skin, and hop into bed!

P.S.  What are your absolute go-to skin care products?! I am always dying to try new things!

7.  Go to bed (at a reasonable time!)

Has it really already been two full hours without any electronics?!

AVOID THE TEMPTATION TO CHECK YOUR PHONE BEFORE BED.

Your Twitter feed can wait until the morning 😉

Now that your night routine is coming to an end, it’s important to make sure you’re getting the right amount of sleep each night.

Because, regardless of how awesome your night routine is, it won’t be quite as good if you aren’t getting the right amount of sleep for your body.

Try experimenting on days when you don’t need an alarm clock to wake up and see when your body naturally wakes you up from sleeping.

This will help to get an idea of how many hours of sleep your body needs to replenish itself for a new day.

Then, based on your magic number, set a bedtime and stick to it.

Don’t forget to plan two hours in advance of your bedtime to start shutting down!

You’ll also want to make sure your room is optimized for a good nights sleep by keeping the temperature cool and using an essential oil diffusing humidifier!

**Bonus:  Take your productivity to the next level!

Do you often find yourself wishing for more time to get things done?  Juggling your work, your life, and your family is hard.  And, staying productive while balancing all of this is a daunting task that often leaves us overwhelmed and anxious.
