Do these statements ring true for you? If so, it’s time to make a change. You don’t have to continue living life through the motions, yearning for the weekend or when you can finally retire.
Nope, with a little smart budgeting, you can decrease the amount of time you spend at work and spend more time living.

Don’t worry, you’re not alone. From working in a few different offices over the last 5 years, I’ve noticed that more people than not spend most of their day at work complaining about being at work.
Like, how many times have you heard one coworker say good morning to another for them to respond with the classic “it’d be better if I wasn’t here.”
Or, for the people who don’t feel passionate about their line of work, how many of you don’t pursue your passion because it doesn’t pay well?
If you’re tired of complaining about working and ready to change a thing or two, I’ve got two solutions for you:
1. Budget smart so you can
a.) work less at your current job, or
b.) afford a lower paying job involving your passion
2. Quit working altogether
Before we get into the solutions to your woes, though, lets figure out why exactly you dislike going to work so much.
Like, who thought it was a good idea to work more than you don’t? And why are we still going along with this bullshit notion today?
I’m your biggest advocate for working less so you can live more, so lets first establish the root of your working misery.
- is your boss a jerk?
- do you have crappy hours?
- are you not passionate about what you do?
Knowing why you dislike your job will help you decide which solution is best for you, starting with solution numero uno.
If you want to work less, you need to figure out a way to not need your job as much. Because at the end of the day, you’re going to work to afford your things, right? So, if you had less things to pay for, you’d get to work less.
It’s really as simple as that. As you decrease your spending, you can decrease your hours.
For example, I used to work 40 hours a week because I had to to afford my bills. Then, I cut my costs and bam, I was at 28 hours a week. And then, I was eventually able to quit my job altogether (but more on that in a few).
Once you decrease your monthly expenses, you have two options:
1. decrease your hours at work
2. find a lower paying job surrounding your passion
With a lowered financial responsibility, money is no longer a factor in your decision for employment, opening up many more doors than before.
I became my own boss recently, and guys, it rocks.
Nobody tells me when to wake up, what to wear, or when I can call in sick. I don’t have to ask permission to leave early for an appointment or for approval off from work when I want to travel.
It’s the life I’ve always dreamed of.
And, don’t worry, you can have it too.
You just gotta start your own business. (Ha, I can see you rolling your eyes as if it’s sooooooo easy to just start your own money-making business from scratch.)
You’re right, it’s not going to be easy. But, it is going to be fun, relatively quick (as compared to other start-ups), and affordable. How?
